Is it just me, or is the IS news server again unusable? Problems started around 9pm last night, and by 11pm it became useless.

I have tried two different IS accounts (one of them with less than 3GB usage).

Out of interest, the soft-capped IS account cannot open mybroadband.co.za and google.co.za even though they are local?

yeah my Newsserver experience is also pap.. So long as it's sorted by Monday I've got no real issues... But I am getting 400 Service Discontinued, Server disconnected errors, which apparently is a problem their side, so to all who are having trouble with it, it's not a problem from your side...

Just because its a co.za doesnt mean its hosted in SA. By the look of it google.co.za (216.239.57.99) is in California. MyAdsl is though afaik.

The IS newserver wasnt working last night for me either. Didnt work when I tested earlier this morning.

Also, google.co.za is not on the local (South African) network. Even though it has a .co.za domain name (which anyone in the world can register), the actual server is not located in South Africa.

Well the IS newsserver is still not working for me and this really sucks .....i hope they can have it fixed rather soon....MrBeep you know anything????

Hey Friends,

A backup news server for OpenWeb clients is:

news.isdsl.net

I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Getting the same ``400 Service Discontinued'' error, with some small bursts of activity (lasting 5-10 seconds at a time).

@Mr BEEP
I tested that server the other day and it wasn't working. Do we need to login to that server or is does it pick it up from the account. Just wondering cause I couldn't get on either way. :(

No improvement from normal server, so I guess something more serious is amiss

Max current download speed only gives 30kb/s instead of my normal 120-170kb/s IF it downlaods.

Loads of netbios login attempts since last night on IS though 22 attempts in the last 20 mins

Ok the sever took a page out of the springbok performance book and went to a total halt.

Here I am wondering if IS is a viable alternative when my uunet access is taken away in a few months time. Why is the service so sporadic? Best effort would imply they at least try.

Just tried out news.isdsl.net

and it seems to be working fine..

Thanks MrBeep :D

You know, it is kinda sucky that IS has sporadic problems like this, BUT the benefits of actually having access to a service like this and the 30gig local outweigh the negatives IMHO...

Still down, wonder how long before its back up

1 of next month - IS are trying to lose clients it seems.

It amazes me that an ISP as large as IS can have such cr@p uptimes on their own servers - methinks it may be time to move my hosting too.
