No sign of ICASA ADSL Regulations implementation

I said it previously, knowing Telkom, they will only start implementing the ADSL regulations when the SNO starts offering ADSL and this means never as the SNO wants to use wireless for the last mile.

time for a promotion of access to information act request to telkom from myadsl in respect of the regs....will do a draft request over the w/end and post up but i imagine it would be best at first to focus on the transparency requirements - contention rations etc

Just sent an email to the addresses given in the article. Perhaps if we all start bothering them on a regular basis....

Understaffed?

I keep hearing this understaffing issue that ICASA is having. It's an absurd statement!

But instead of getting into an argument about why and whether they really are "understaffed" as they claim. I hereby offer my services, skills and many many years of experience in the ITC industry to help draft and justify a new clear set of regulations. And this time, penalties need to be included as well.

I'm also starting a thread -> http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?p=668431

Everyone that also want to offer their services / help and support can post there.

But what were you expecting ? Telkom to turn around their unjustifiable behaviour and actually deliver.

And pigs can fly.

Arn't the regulations now law? If a consumer body (hint, hint rpm... ;)) was to take Telkom to court then surely Telkom could face penalties?

This is a clear indicator for the future:

Consumers must start to disregard ICASA and take the law into their own hands.

JAWUG etc is a good example - transmitting (unlicensed) data across public roads.

Most ISPs are waiting for Telkom’s lead concerning the implementation

I wonder when the ISPs will realise that Telkom's already taken their stand. They're not doing anything with ICASA's Tentative-Draft-Almost-Suggestions.

Someone get the number for a councillor from me and phone 'em :)

Why? The problem is that Telkom is disregarding ICASA and taking the law into their own hands. How do consumers benefit by disregarding ICASA?

Maybe ICASA needs to grow a pair, or stop fondle'ing TELKOM's pair and put them in a vice grip instead!

Because the regulator is toothless, and we want everyone to know. If they go after private citizens when they're ignoring the blatant violations of the corporates, there will be an outcry. Or at least there should.

telkom is a licencee and player - same as everyone else...it is imho a positive that they at last no longer regard themselves as the Regulator and that ICASA is their partner in regulation (remember telkom was the regulator until 96..)

and consumers can, perhaps, benefit from others disregarding ICASA...

Hold your nose and jump in the river!

Last week we had iWeek, and all the speakers acknowledged the Presidents words, we need cheaper telecoms and better access. So is it worth complaining? or better just doing?

Esther Dyson publically pointed out that everyone at the PIAC (Presidents International Advisory council, which included the Minister and all the senior regulatory/legislative officials) felt it was okay to get a Telkom adsl line and share it with your neighbours. Please do this! I do and I encourage others to, wherever possible.

That leaves us with the per MB charge which is another issue that we need to lobby on. Urgently... SAT3 prices must come down, that will bring down the per MB costs..

I think the myadsl testing is essential and something like the Tectonic campaign can be used to fund this if funding is a problem... we need to have monthly or quarterly tests, that will mean that we have all the info we need to chose the best ISP.

Never mind ICASA, let's get on with wiring up our neighbourhoods (without the wires)

Go go gogogogogogogogogogo!

Cheers,

aLan
:D
