Telkom’s ADSL 2+ and WiMax plans

At that speed it'll take 5 minutes to download a gig and at R60-R70 a gig we'll all need a second bond to cover our telecoms bills.
 
"It should be noted that Telkom will not launch ADSL2+ as a service" - gee. now isn't that a surprise!!! They can hardly get 1MB going let alone 24MB!!
 
I note that MyADSL's article quotes Telkom saying that "it should be noted that Telkom will not launch ADSL2+ as a service". I take it that means that the company will make ADSL2+ available as part of its network upgrades but won't advertise it as such? They'll tell you that you can get a 10Mbit/s connection, for example, but will simply advertise it as DSL. Why else would they be investing in ADSL2+ equipment?

Bullsh!t.

Telkom's WiMAX has been "in trial" for over 2 years now. They have no plans to roll it out, they're just sitting on their license and using the 'trials' as an excuse to justify wasting the spectrum and stopping competitors from getting in...

Last time they said they gonna make wimax like ADSL, rental + ISP usage costs :(

So if this article is to be believed, its cheaper to buy, install and maintain ADSL2+ equipment to provide 384/512/4096mbs service and revenue, than to use ADSL equipment.
Yeah right... thats a bit like buying a formula one car to ferry the kids to school in.
Does Telkom make money by accident, since the management sound like a bunch of idiots.
 
Who still uses ADSL1 in the world other than us? Could be telkom cant get parts anymore. They also know that if they gave is the full speed (as mentioned above) then the high costs they are charging us would suddenly become incredible visable and put them in deep trouble. So install all the ADSL2+ equipment, but keep the speeds down to continue to rip us off.

Also dont forget we will all be paying for this.. remember the BS excuse they have been using for so long saying that the current costs of ADSL was to recover the x million they had to spend on installing ADSL DSLAMS in the first place. Since they know they cant use that one forever due to the profits they are making, they can now continue to spin this story saying they have upgraded to ADSL2+ and this is why the costs are not coming down
 
The only reason why they are installing ADSL2+ is because the ADSL equipment has become obsolete and more expensive than ADSL2+.

Telkom has been installing ADSL2+ equipment for the last 12 months.
 
lol, that is typical SA. Here you go, have ADSL2+ modems, and enabled exchanges. Congratulations, your 384k line has the possibility of running at 24Mbps now, but we will allow you to stay at 384k. Telkom is a joke!!

Care to let the rest of us know what the source of this info is cuz I didn't think that ADSL2+ was nearly as prevalent you make out.
Is the DSL equipment coming out of one ericsson factory in Sweden or something?

BTW anyone know if there are stats on the installed speeds for DSL?

great we will be able to get 24mg.. its not cool when you have a stupid 3 gig cap, telkom must realise that most people dont want higher speeds, they want to have no cap, with high speeds, is that so hard to understand??? for telkom i think so.

My guess is they're being deliberately ambiguous to cover themselves either way.
 
I might be wrong, but by my calculations you can exhaust your 3gig cap in 18 minutes with a 24mb line
