Any news on "data sim"?? A store offered this to me via sms, but when I phoned the store, no one could really tell me what i wanted to know, except that I would be able to add two data sim cards to a normal voice contract, and none to a 3G data contract. Why why why?
Its such a hassle taking the sim card in and out of the data card, and then in and out of my handset. And dont tell me abut twincall. I'd like to be able to receive my calls while using my 3G data card....

Well from what I understand, DataSim will let you have up to 3 sim cards. So one for your phone, one for your datacard and one for your blackberry device (or another datacard). And you'll be able to use all three devices at the same time.

Is this what you want to do R_KZN? Keep your SIM in your phone, and then have a seperate SIM card for your datacard? Then you don't have to swop the SIM cards in and out all the time.

:L:

Using one contract for both data and voice [DataSIM versus TwinCall]

Is it possible to use a Vodacom data contract for both data and voice? Would something like Twincall make this possible? It makes sense to have a single contract instead of having two separate ones. Is there anyone that has followed this route or is there a thread somewhere that discussed the matter?

Edit: What I mean is using the same card in both the phone and modem.

Thanks R_KZN, seems like a new product, I haven't noticed it before. From Vodacom's website:
To illustrate – you can now make calls while being connected to the Internet with your Vodafone Mobile Connect Card and receive email on your BlackBerry – all at the same time.

And the cost:
A once off connection fee of R97.00 as well as a SIM card fee of R105.00 is applicable on activation and a subscription fee of R9.00 will be levied per month for each Data SIM

I got a new twinned 3G sim today. It's for data only usage. This way I can use both twinned sims at the same time.

Does this DataSim only include voice with that? Anything else different?

Cost difference of these two methods?

Twinned: A once off connection fee of R97.00 as well as a SIM card fee of R105.00. No monthlies as far as I know - am I wrong?
DataSim: A once off connection fee of R97.00 as well as a SIM card fee of R105.00, R9 per month.

Not that I know of, but I haven't been looking. But I discussed this with V3G in Dec 2005/Jan 2006 and they determined that it will work fine if you only do data on both. I required it for my 3G router-always-on/3G phone-on-the-move combo.

I think it may be called a TwinCall. That's what the lady at AutoPage called it today.

I suppose you are paying the R9 for the benefit of having simultaneous connections, in contrast with Twincall that only allows one connection at a time.

Note you can have both twinned sims connected at the same time on data connections.

Concurrent connectins on 3G offer

Hello

Missed this if previously posted.

Can I have 2 USB modems running on 1 account?

i.e. 1 at my SOHO and 1 at my main office?

With Twincall, yes.

But don't expect your service provider to be helpful. Last time I did this was through a VC shop and they did it without hassles.

With Autopage I've been struggling for a week now and had to go there 3 times already. Firstly the lady didn't believe it will work, but I insisted. Then after a week of the sim not being activated I returned to complain and they "found a fault" (after making me wait for an hour). Which didn't help as they issues a sim which was allocated to someone else and I had to return a third time. So three visits (1.5 hour drive each time) and it's still not activated. Pathetic.

I'll wait for the "12-24 hours for the sim to be activated" to elapse (it's been 18) and then go there and make a scene. Apparently that's the only thing that helps with service providers in South Africa.

GOOD LUCK!

Erm, now AutoPage says that Vodacom says it can't be done. PM'ed V3G ... will keep you posted ...

Why pay connection fees and R9 per month, just to get another sim.

What I just did today, was migrated to 200 S topup and bought me a 40c 4U sim (yes that is 40c)
I never make more than R100 calls, but my DATA inflate my bill near R1000.
so now I know I will only pay 209.50 fixed.

the 40c sim will be "upgraded" to a 4 U zero contract, and a bolton 1G data on 1/4/2007.
thus R289 + 209.50 = +-R500. not a bad Idea, cut bill in half.
I cant wait till the 1rst

In layman's terms, if you missed what ic means, you've one cell number with two or three SIMs, one in in your phone, one in your datacard and one in your blackberry. So while your PC is downloading that all important DVD, you can drive around Googling some more DVD sites and emailing your results to contacts without ever having to swap a SIM from one to device to another. Kapish? ;)
