DataSIM: one voice contract and Data SIM Cards that share a Contract Data Bundle

Geez, another week or two later and Autopage says: "Only standard Contract packages qualify for Data SIM and will not be available on any MyMeg packages, HSDPA or 3G packages."

EDIT, I see these terms and conditions are now under the Datasim terms and conditions - was this added recently?

I mean this is so stupid, I can share the sim with a 3G router afterall. And don't forget I had a perfectly working twinned sim a year ago.

V3G, is this the case?

I'm so pissed off I might as well go to MTN or even Cell-C!

Ok, so where's the cheapest out-of-bundle, pre-paid, carryover deal that will work with my Vodafone HSDPA card (it better not be bloody networked locked!).

Bastards! This is one customer you are loosing! Screw the customer.

ic, no it's now a Vodacom issue. Check the terms on the Datasim page.

Bio, if I read this correctly, you want to use your data contract as the starting point to get a DataSIM setup?

The product was designed to allow voice, data and BB to work together, so the 'typical' application would be to start with a voice contract, add a bundle you'll use in your data card and even add a BB.

But I can see your logic. Let me check with the product manager again.

I've not kept you e-mails, so won't you mail me the relevant contract details again.

If you've not taken out any contracts, I'd do the following:

- Get a 4U 'voice' contract.
- Strap bundle to it
- Get DataSim

- Never use voice......

We have a 3G contract which includes a datacard and sim.

We have another datacard from an expired contract with no sim

We want to have a twinned or datasimmed 2nd sim for the second datacard so we can use the one account.

The one card will be in a 3G router and the 2nd will be mobile.

From my point of view this fair and Vodacom is screwing us if this is not allowed.

In fact this is what you helped set up for me a bit more than a year ago with a twinned sim for a 3G contract! And it DID work.

Excuse my temper, but this has been going on for 6 weeks or more already. I'm getting gatvol!

V3G, are there any news? Or can I give up on this and move on?

The answer was to take two or three sims but link them at billing level, not at network level. Now you can have two sims that allows you to share a bundle. This is called MultiSIM and is charged at a extra R9 per SIM.

I guess you could get a voice contract (4U?), get a twinsim on it and then strap a bundle to it.

This sounds like what I want - I want a dedicated sim for data, but I also want (a) to be able to use another sim in my phone (for voice), while online with my other sim, and (b) to be able to use my phone sim for data occasionally, coming out of the same bundle as that on the dedicated sim. Am I correct in thinking that DataSIM can do this? (Using a MyMeg bundle, of course - it would negate the whole point if I had to pay the out of bundle rate).

I don't mind the extra R9 per month too much (although it does feel like a bit of a rip-off); but is there any way to avoid the almost R200 connection/activation fee? Maybe by using a 4U Zero contract, or something like that?

The datasim will work for you yes. If you take out a new contract, any contract, you can avoid the sim and connection charge on the primary sim by having a prepaid simcard (bought at Checkers/PicknPay i.e.) converted to contract.
[Not sure if this will work if you take out a new data(only) contract]

On the data sim, which you add to your 4U contract for example, they will charge you R100 for the data sim - unavoidable as they use a vanilla simcard as a datasim i.e. one that is not associated with a phone number, and link that to your normal contract slash primary simcard or phone number. There is no connection charge for the datasim.

We are moving into new offices in two weeks and we won't have ADSL for a while, so I have to make some kind of plan ...

2 sim cards

Can you have 2 sim cards? One for data and one for voice?

2 data or twincall sims in addition to primary voice sim?

I was under the impression that one can have 2 data sims in addition to a voice sim. The Vodacom shop says no.

The requirement is to be able to make voice calls on the phone, and have two data cards active at the same time, i.e. all 3 devices active at the same time. Is this possible with data sim and/or twin call sims?

Im not sure but will say what I know...
One primary sim.
One twincall sim.
One data sim that can be used for either Blackberry or data.

VC Data Sim

Has this been posted:?

The new Data SIM, only available from Vodacom, is the easiest and most convenient way to use more than one cellular device simultaneously - no more frustrations with swapping your primary SIM from one device to another.

Using the Data SIM you can experience improved productivity and efficiency in your voice and data communication. Each SIM works independently of the other and you can enjoy optimal usage of all your cellular devices at the same time.
You can add up to two additional Data SIMs to your existing Vodacom contract and use these SIMs in your Vodafone Mobile Connect Card, your BlackBerry, your cellphone dedicated to accessing data or your 3G Router to access data services without removing your contract SIM from your cellphone.

To illustrate – you can now make calls while being connected to the Internet with your Vodafone Mobile Connect Card and receive email on your BlackBerry – all at the same time.

R9/month extra and R2/MB

Not to mention the R200 sim and setup fee.

Went to the Vodacom walk in center @ Vodaworld on the 31st (July), was told by the "consultant" that no such product exists !! After insisting that they check as I had seen it on there website, they eventually (after going in the back), discovered it on the VAS form ...

I asked for two Data SIM's, one for notebook (builtin card, under the battery so a PITA to change) and one for my UMTS router. Was informed that the system only allows the loading of ONE data sim, at that point I just gave up and settled for the one SIM. :(

Good luck trying to get two (as per their website) !!!
