Hi,

is there an external antenna for the E220?

I have a client who is just outside the official 3G coverage area of Vodacom, an nowhere near to MTN's coverage.

He gets about 50% of the time a 3G signal (3/5 bars) on his cellphone - so I guess he will be Ok with a decent external antenna on an E220.

There is an antenna connector inside the unit. I don't know if it works though, haven't had the chance to actually test one.

Anyone out there willing to sponsor one for some evil experiments?

Regards,
JJF.

I posted a reply in this thread earlier ??

Basically all the others posts are correct. There is no external antenna, Poynting is working on an antenna, use a 5m USB cable and mount it as high as possible.

Or swap someone for an E620 and do a fixed antenna installation.

This sounds like good news...

Hope the poynting antenna will happen soon, or that Huawei will bring out an E230 with a jack for an external antenna.

Edit:
Oops: I see there is already an E270 http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/products/view.do :)

Oh, but wait, what is this? No antenna port....again?! Surely they can't be THAT stupid?

What's wrong with these people?

They are not stupid - they just can't comprehend the telecoms conditions in South Africa - most probably a minor bit of their market.

Anyway of tweaking your connection

Hi All

Is there anyway of squeezing some extra juice out of the E220. I really need to tweak mine got a kuk connection.

E220 Modem - Signal Booster ?

I read on a site that you can use a cellphone signal booster in the E220 modem. Has anyone tried this if so what where the results.

Yeah, I'd be interested to know if this works at all. As there is no way to attach an external high gain antenna to the E220.

Hopefully the new USB modem that will be released in the future have the port for external antennas.

:L:

i've seen signal improve with a "booster" usb cable, which has 2 usb plugs that plug into the pc/laptop - that has helped some notebooks ive seen signal improve.. i dont have an E220 myself, so im not 100% sure, and also not certain if the usb cable with the 2 connections is standard or self purchased..

other options for USB HSDPA

check out www.thetalogix.com they have a HSDPA USb device, the slipstream? they seem to have done something unique with the antenna, also it can take EXTERNAL antenna. only problem is their distributor just doesnt have stock at the moment!
