www.dumeter.com – the DU meter keeps a detailed record of your usage of bandwidth – much better than the Vodafone online counter. You can download for free - and there is a version that you can pay for! The meter allows you to set an alarm for when you usage reaches your in bundle limit, and so on. Very useful if you need to manage budget on line.

Usage Monitor GPRS and 3G

This has been bothering me for some time now , why does the usage monitor log both GPRS and 3G data ?
Why not just log both under one group... also why by default is the size limit on the GPRS set to half of the 3G limit ? is there a cost difference in these two carriers ? If I have the 3G500 contract which gives 500MB of data how do I then split this between the 2 so that my usage stats stay more or less accurate ? Any help would do ...Thanks

I wondered the same thing but it doesn't really matter how you split the two, the costs are the same. I usually put my usage log at 50MB GPRS and 450MB 3G. My connection is "3G preferred" which will switch to GPRS if 3G is not available and thus logging the GPRS usage.

The dashboard that comes with the data card is extremely inaccurate. You guys would do much better using 3rd party programs such as DUmeter or Netlimiter. I don't run the dashboard even once after it is installed.

Would be great to have snmp mibs for the linksys router (wrt54g3g) in order to plot own usage.

Does it support SNMP? If so, do a snmp walk or just use MIB-II, RFC1213, if I can still remember this stuff.....

Use something like...oh, [email protected] was that freeware snmp graphing tool again? MRTG?

Traffic Metering

Are there any reliable, accurate traffic meters available? Netmeter and DU Meter are as inaccurate as VMC's dashboard, on my notebook in any case!

With what are you comparing the VMC dashboard stats? What makes you say it is inaccurate?

I use only Vodacom, no other connections.

Comparison for July to date:
Netmeter: 882.4Mb
DUMeter: 254.7Mb
VM: 1.84Gb
V4me: 3.51Gb
