R 18-00 DSTV offering here soon

I wonder if they will release another service that excludes all channels that are included in the DSTV Easy View service. Those channels are all cr@p.

Maybe not the best channels, but I think this service is actually released very close to or below cost. Just the billing must come close to R 18-00. I think this is a good move by Multichoice...competition is sweet :D

Yep. Competition can only be good for the consumer :)

I have to wonder though if they are trying to tie peeps in to their decoders. And hoping that ICASA does not force them to share.

I think this is partly the reasoning. But even if you must share, you already have an account and upgrading is generally eassy...still makes sense.

True. And we all know sa consumers tend to stick to what they know and hate change.

The other burning question is how soon before they start lowering prices on their decoders/dishes. Those who are willing to pay R 18.00 a month will not be willing to spend a fortune on the hardware.

Wow.. well this seems goodish in some ways.. still if this is the knee jerk reaction to licensing of new operators, it bodes well for newer packages me thinks :)

DSTV are a bunch of ****ers..for the last 10 years or more they have operated under a take it or leave it attitude and charged what they wanted. Only now under the threat of competition do they start offering choices...I hate monopolistic companies they are all inherently unethical.

That is their nature. What I hate is the environment the government creates that enables them to operate in this way. It's almost like they are determined to re-invent the wheel

What would really interest me is an offering where i can choose which channels i want.

I don't mind paying R10-R20 per channel pm if I have the choice as to which channels I can view.

SCIFI
Cartoon Network
National geographic
Discovery
Mnet... i think
and that movie channel :) ( I havent watched tv in over a year so sue me )

Well, thats a monopoly and thats how business is done. And no, DSTV are not ****ers. They arent unethical either.

You need to look a little further than DSTV to see why they have been a monopoly for so long.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Also it's not like more choices are going to errode their profit margins, they're in fact going to make more money.

Its not dstv, but I know Aminocom was releasing a range of DSL set top boxes for IPTV, when i last heard they were checking out the SA scene with telkom covering the dsl, not sure if anything further has happened there.

it would be pretty cool. just a thought :/
