Excerpt form Neotel's consumer page:

Neotel plans to introduce a variety of voice and data services (including high-speed-Internet and true broadband access services) for individual consumers and SMMEs in South Africa, with the first of these services targeted for availability around the middle of 2007.

A limited area residential trial for high-speed-internet and voice services in July 2007 will be followed by a full commercial offering in select, but gradually expanding geographies.

Neotel's true broadband services are planned for introduction by December 2007.

Exactly what I do NOT want. Give me a loose standing internet connection so that I don't have to throw R120 every month into the dustbin and I might be interested. Offer me tons of "free" crap which I don't need or want and you'll lose my business if you can't offer it at current price - R120 atleast.

Here is a copy of email I received on 23 August 2007 from Neotel after making an enquiry about Durban.

We are currently limiting our trials in Johannesburg and Pretoria, in order to ensure that we can focus on ensuring that the service offerings are aligned to the customer’s requirements. Budgeted user base of 45mil and increasing steadily.

I'm more interested in the underwater cables that Neotel might organize w/ seacom than neotel itself.

The easy picking are not going to be so easy to find when Neotel finally get their fingers out.

I just don't think that CDMA is going to be able to compete with ADSL in terms of reliability and ping times...Maybe I am just lucky to live in an area with stable ADSL?
