Internet download files for speed test

Thanks folks, I'm using http://ping.online.net/20Mo.dat . Its working nicely. I'm not really interested in the connection speed, Vuma has become very erratic in my dorpie with the connection dropping. The speed test logger will produce a trend and log each time the connection drops. Hopefully my...

Internet download files for speed test

I've got a small app to test my internet download speed and log the result. It uses a file to download from a server to measure the speed. Its a couple of years since I used it, I'm sure the file it previously used was from SAIX. I'm now unable to find download files at SAIX, and a google...

    The Home Improvements Thread (3)

My neighbor is taking huge chances building extra rooms. Folks.. Here’s a curious tale regarding additional rooms being built at a guest house which borders the side of my property. I’d best not name the town in case the owner picks this up, except to say I’m in the Free State and approx 50km...

    Warning of Eskom collapse

My dorpie owes Eishkom R2b. And it's increasingly monthly. The munc don't seem to be doing anything about it....why ? Don't forget the vast majority of folk with bridged meters vote for the party running the munc. If the munc took action, their supporters would kick them out of office, and...

    Ordering off Aliexpress? Advice?

Folks, I've been ordering parts from Aliexpress for a couple of years. Each time a package the PO asks for R35 irrespective of the package value. Today I get a FULL A4 page for the latest package, and they want R160 to collect it. The package contains a couple of GSM modems, yet the description...

Do you have a backup water system?

Living in Parys, a JoJo and pump are essential. I use a 2200l Jojo and pressure pump. The tank fills from munc water when its available. I've plumbed it so only one valve needed to be swung to swap from munc to JoJo water.

    Axxess Fibre

From my experience of them over the last month I'm a ball hair away from tellimg Axxess to shove their fiber where the sun don't shine. Vuma installed the fibre in less than 24hrs, that was awesome. Then I get an invoice for the months subscription, I ask their support should I pay it? They say...

    General fibre installation question.

Thanks for the feedback. I was involved with fibre installations many, many moons ago when we were still on dial up modems. It was used in industry on machines and very fragile hence my concerns. Now to wait for the router to arrive and put theory into practice. Cheers, Malcolm (T)

    General fibre installation question.

Vuma installed fibre at my place a few days ago. After they'd gone I noticed the fibre 'cable' is not run in conduit under the roof eves, its even pulled tight against the wall as it goes round a corner. I've asked Vuma and send the attached photo's and had no reply as yet. I expected it to be...

    Genny connection question.

I installed the transfer switch. I'm familiar with industrial low voltage electrics. I'm thinking of using a 32A 2 pole industrial socket connected directly to the Genny outlet and a plug on a small box connected to the Norse. That will be safe, and hopefully legal.

    Genny connection question.

Folks, I've got 5.5kw Genny with two outlets which connect to a single cable going to the house transfer switch. I need to join the two cabtyre cables to the single norse cable legally. Currently they're joined with crimped ferrules in a JB and covered with heat shrink. The cabtyre is 4mm and...

    Internet speed test logger

Folks, I'm having serious hassles with RAIN ( Ruddy Awful Internet Network) and want to log their pathetic connection speeds in Excel to prove a few points with them. I found a neat looking app called Logger but for some reason it doesn't see my laptops online. There is another called Star...

RAIN in PARYS is PATHETIC...when will you fix it PROPERLY ???????

Howzit, They reason I'm staying with Ruddy Awful Internet Network for the moment is I'm retired and have to watch the pennies carefully. Also I'm looking at moving so if I get fibre it's going to cost still more should the address change within a year. After a heated discussion with a support...
