The official running thread™

Now that I'm getting back into the swing of doing longer run distances again, it seems my toes are suffering for it and some blistering happening at the front, on the soles and even even under my toenails. I have the correct size shoes and thick "blister socks" but I suppose it comes with the territory when running a lot.
No brother, it really shouldn't. Something isn't right.

For example I do not have a single blister anymore since switching to very thin but high quality socks (I use brand Sox, they awesome).

Could also be the way you tying your laces, maybe you need to employ the "heel lock" lacing technique.

But I'm not sure with such extensive areas of blistering. Sounds a bit more complicated. But don't give up, you shouldn't be getting blisters at all

I've only ever had one blister. And that was from my knee guard

Blisters could also happen because of sweating a lot. You could just try using vaseline for now as well.

I'm starting to enjoy running slowly... weird to explain though lol
I'm very much experiencing the same, all because of the inspiration and encouragement from this thread.

And it is paying off...

Did the Firgove Challenge 15km in CPT on the weekend and honestly felt very very fresh after. Much less impact to my joints and recovery compared to previous years. I'm happy with what is happening.

I signed up for my first 21k in years. I reckon completing it at a slow pace is going to be more enjoyable than taking days to recover from the usual aches, pains and niggles.

Sunday was an easy 16k with zero side effects. Apart from the 2 hours it took me to complete

Tried MAF on a hilly course and was basically reduced to a walk. Apparently incline walking has major benefits to your aerobic base.

I'm sticking to fairly flat routes until I get my pacing right. I can be a bit useless at that kind of thing but it's getting easier as the days go on

Today was interval day, I copied this workout from the NRC app.

It was supposed to be a 5 min warmup followed by blocks of 4x intervals at 5k, 10k and 1 mile pace with 1 minute recovery at the end of each interval except a 2 minute recovery after the last 5k int and the last 10k blocks. Looking at the stats it seems my pacing was a little off, probably a bit too fast at times when I was supposed to be doing 5k and 10k paces. I was pretty much wrecked after the last 1 mile interval.

Overall, 5.59km with an averaged pace of 5'50"/KM

That waterproof jacket I thought I had was not waterproof It helped but got heavy and my friends were like it looks dry but I was also confused if it's sweat or rain but eventually watching rain drops disappear in it I was like derp eish just ignore science and debate later about it.

Parkrun was fun yesterday. Dozens of parkruns were closed due to rain, and I did Roodepoort in the rain. They virtually never cancel, and fortunately even if wet, it's not terribly muddy. Sadly my knee has some issues, so I walked. :( (I walked with the tail walker, and I was still in the top 50, 4th in age category...)

I reckon going out there and doing it is better than not doing it

Was due to run a 7k trail run this am but it would have been just too muddy. So gave that a skip and went and did a MAF'ish 18k instead. Was boring as **** @RunningFromFat but at least I was out there lol

Perfect route for a maf run as well. Quiet + lots of other runners there as well usually.
