The official running thread™

I only added my pair to Garmin Gear in May 2022 and it's sitting on 460km atm. But I've been using them from around September 2020 so definitely way higher mileage. Being lightweight I guess my shoes last a bit longer. But definitely time to replace them.

Problem is way too many options out there and it's so easy to select the wrong one
Go to poobies in town and see what they say after running on the treadmill. There’s also a poobies in Hilton as well

I've tried to do that in the town one twice now. First time was some chick who said there's no need. Second time the guy wasn't interested and made me run on the track so he could see. Wtf is the point in having that treadmill then?

Can't remember seeing a treadmill at that new one in Hilton

Then you got unlucky! I stick to the same series shoe and it works, EG: Asics 2000 9 , then went to asics 2000 10 now will buy asics 2000 10 again on special.

How long do your guys shoes last before you change them? Goth two pairs sitting @ 500km...
I do rotations over 4 pairs and when pair starts to show wear I resign it to short runs, PR and even hill reps.

My oldest pair has lost some of its cushioning and has some wear underneath but otherwise looks practically new. Over 1000km in this one.

What I noticed is that training in a hard sole not only improves form but it enhances the cushioned effect I feel in the other shoes. You just feel faster.

My shoes generally fall apart and then I replace them.

Hoka Carbon x - sole ripped from the shoe.
ASICS gt 2000 - rubber underneath came off
Brooks gts 19 and 20s - where the toes bend it started ripping until I could see socks.
Brooks ghosts - weren't great shoes and ripped all over.
Brooks gts 18 - lasted long but the foam was so wrinkled and flat I replaced them.

All those shoes were in the 600-800km range except the hoka those have 400km max.

Trail shoes last way longer.

What are you doing to your shoes bro

How accurate is the elevation shown on the Garmin watches? I have a 245 music and today I decided to run on track at Ruimsig Stadium. This is the data from the watch. Screenshot_2023-02-04-13-53-16-08_d9aa206de00b4b7c29deeb8e9ccbd9e7.jpg

Speaking of shoes, I managed to get a new pair of Brooks Ghost 14s to replace my current pair which are approaching retirement in a few KMs. There's a decent special going at Total Sports and further discount for Vitality, so that's nice.

How did you apply the discount? In store? I got myself another pair of GT 2000 10's at takealot.

Yeah, you generate a QR code in the Discovery app. I think there's a code you can use for online purchases too but it has to be a Discovery partner like Total Sports or Sportsmans Warehouse.

Ye totalsports doesn't work online with the QR code, hence having to buy the shoes over takealot.

Usually between 800 and 1000km I will relegate my oldest shoes to trails and muddy runs, and get a new pair for road use. I use the New Balance 860 series; newest is on 211km, #2 on 1100km, and #3 on 1600km. The older shoes are a bit smoother on the bottom, but in good shape otherwise.

I'm similar to you, my shoes can last that long as well.

Don't you mean oldest shoes relegated?

A bit of a cold stopped my training and my plans for the Parkrun this past weekend.
I feel much better, but I might give it another day or two, just to be sure.

Now that I'm getting back into the swing of doing longer run distances again, it seems my toes are suffering for it and some blistering happening at the front, on the soles and even even under my toenails. I have the correct size shoes and thick "blister socks" but I suppose it comes with the territory when running a lot.
