Best Decent Android TV Box

Rather get one of the all in one jobbies and use a ssd or nvme USB drive:

i was trying to originally get one of those - but it was mostly only available on imports at the time (takealot was sold out) - and i got a passive 4 port and the USB to ethernet adapter - and recently i replaced the passive unit with this active one - and IMHO the active one is still way better than the passive one you suggest - the passive ones do not allow you to use more than one hard drive at a time (whatever you try to do)

also i got the stuff at very favorable pricing since i get the stuff from buddies who don really add on a profit margin for the stuff i buy from them - so i paid a fair amount less than what it would cost at Takealot or Amazon for most of the stuff i purchased

if i really wanted though i suppose i could have gotten something like this

https://www.sunsky-online.com/p/PC4...ltifunctional-Docking-Station-HUB-Adapter.htm

then get something like this so i could use plug it into the TV box USB A port

https://www.takealot.com/type-c-fem...r-2-pack-3pack-4pack/PLID96198357?size=2+Pack

and then have a good PD capable 100 to 120 watt phone charger or even a huge PD capable power bank connected to the USB C section of it to make it active

either way will only look marginally neater because only the USB to ethernet adapter will be one item that wont be sticking out of the unit anyway an you will still have hard drives lying around

there are effective ways to add USB ports 😉

Mibox S 2nd gen with a 4 port active USB hub (if 4 ports are not enough you can find one with 8 to 10 ports ..... also active meaning it is powered from a wallplug - so all the ports get enough power to work simultaneously and are not powered from the USB port they are connected to) - I have a USB to ethernet adapter plus flash drive as additional system storage and two hard drives connected to my hub ...... both drives recognize and work simultaneously

if you get the 8 port one you can add more portable hard drives as well as a Keyboard and mouse ..... and anything else USB that you wish to add - it may look cumbersome but it does the job and does it pretty well IMHO despite it being "older tech" to use flash drives - i'm not out to make a fashion statement BUT i want my job done - and this stuff does it and that is good enough for me
Even this is such a mess. Just get a little server and connect to the same network. I would not waste money on all these gadgets and extensions.

i'm not interested in a network way to do it all - i now stay in a retirement home and there are around 150 rooms connected to the router system that gives us network and internet - i'm not going to waste my time trying to separate all my stuff from the stuff that everyone else is using

if i try to use my own dedicated networking setup - then i don't use stuff that i'm already paying for monthly and i need to pay again just to have my own independent cr@p and the network stuff plus replacing all the drives i have with internal ones will cost 10 times what i spend on those little gadgets and i still will have to spend monthly - i'm totally not going to do that - i rather have all the gadgets and the mess in my own little room - its less of a problem to my circumstances ....... though that doesn't stop anyone else from doing things their own way 😉

Probably the best media streamer on the market right now

i would have loved to get one just to try and verify that, but its almost as expensive as an Apple TV so its not a thing you just buy to just test it out (like a cheapie Mi box - i got my 2nd gen when it was around R1k) ..... at that price it has to be your "one size fits all" solution that you will land up keeping for a fair amount of time and it just doesn't seem that for me yet

You can buy secondhand 2nd gen Apple 4k tv for 1600-R1800. Its is still faster than that Google streamer, has ethernet and wifi 6

has ethernet and wifi 6
You’ve just implied that you don’t need Ethernet with WiFi 6? You’re flip flopping on your emotions.

Do you also warm up to watching a movie by flipping between icons to see how the RAM and performance work? Bizarre ritual you guys have

Needs wifi6 cause it doesn't have AV1 support so streaming requires higher bandwidth.
Also you're just like Smiggles, someone mentions Android and you appear. Do you also get a commission or rank up for getting more acolytes? Or do you also just feel like you need to justify your spending?
Like I got the best honest, look at me, it's the bestest ever cause it cost twice as much.

@Jean Claude Vaaldamme is part of the Apple titual crowd, it seems

'Save R1,000 and get an Apple second hand ... sure you won't have features like AV1 or HDR10+ or interactive titles or full updates even a decent Find My Remote system, but you can switch these icons and it looks sooo coooool'

Nope I just mentioned you get the best of both worlds, so you can choose what you want to use.
What does flipping through icons do for ram? Does the Android boxes even struggle with that? My Android boxes struggle when I start to search, scrolling through info of multiple movies/series. when trying to decide what I want to watch.

Funny how you think everything Android is the best, yet you have an Apple tv, iPhone and Mac mini. You must be the dumbest consumer ever.

What does flipping through icons do for ram?
You talk about the performance?
And when I've asked, everyone talks about the UI?
yet you have an Apple tv
You said it wasd the best device ever - so I got one
You said it was the best device ever - so I got one

And then when I said 'whoa, hold the bus ... it's not that great because of x,y, z' - your crowd had me banned?

Only people with Androids on 2013 Wifi 5 care about AV1
LOL at HDR10+ who cares? I thought Dolby Atmos was where its at? (according to you?)
OH and list us all the Android boxes with find my remote please.
LOL and Netflix interactive that nobody uses, except Dolby. LOL is that feature even still working?

I was today years old when I found out I can use my phone to find my Apple TV remote...

Not that I lose it very often, but it's happened.
