PlayStation 5 consoles more prone to failures than Xboxes in South Africa

Yep. No surprise.
Series X is a silent quality monster.

I have serviced my Series X myself - as its a launch console, the thermal paste was old and dry when I gave it some love.

The phat PS5 I got lives on its side, so hopefully I don't have the liquid metal issue. I hardly use the thing so there is little incentive to open it up and give it a good service.

I am sure I have slightly damaged the HDMI port on my Xbox but its still going good :D

What are the sales of both, just want to paint a picture.

Want to get my 13/52 right here.

As of late 2025/early 2026, the PlayStation 5 dominates the current-generation console market, with over 86–89 million units sold compared to an estimated 34 million for the Xbox Series X|S combined. The PS5 holds a roughly 52–55 million unit lead, outselling Xbox by more than 2-to-1 and leading by over 70% market share.

This makes sense to me.

The design of the Series X is much better for airflow and keeping the components cooled. On the PS5 they had to resort to using liquid metal for the SOC, which I think is telling on how confident they were on these staying cool.

Plus the fact that it has been documented that the liquid metal can migrate over time and leave dry spots.

It's been 6 years, I didn't care for the design of the PS5 at launch and I still don't like it.

Stupid article - there are considerably more PlayStations than Xboxes. If you just count what you see coming into your repair shop, the stats are not really telling you much! Have had all the generations of PlayStation (excluding PS2) , have not had one break on me to this day! Still have a fat PS3 that works perfectly fine and kids inherited my PS4 - not a day's problem.
On my side

PS3 phat - zero issues
PS4 OG - 3 issues - overheat x 2, Optical drive x1
XBOX Series X - Optical drive
XBOX Series S - zero issues

6 Years and I still don't even know if my XBox, or PS5's optical drives even work :D

Yes, you can blame me for the death of Physical. <-- (We do make up for this with only buying physical cards for Switch 1st party games)

my son's GF bought him a physical copy of Modern Warfare as a birthday gift - that's the only reason we found out that there was something wrong with the drive 4 years in - it may well have been a dud at the time of purchase

Had a PS5 phat for 4 years. Always vertical. Zero issues, nice and quiet.
Guess it was a good factory application of liquid metal.

With my PS5 Pro they added grooves where the liquid metal is placed and this makes it adhere far better.

I have repaired plenty of PS5's and Xbox Series consoles - Liquid Metal is a manufacturing issue - you might be the lucky one that the metal just stays in place or where the metal spills out - PS5 mostly HDMI ports, some DOA or component failure

Xbox's also power failure and tons of corrosion and not so much HDMI ports unless people drop them or ripped the cords out - I had to repair a Series S with 14 out of 19 pads ripped - Dog tripped the cable

Another bitter PC-boy about Sony taking it's exclusives away.... :)
No, I didn't care about Cuck of War or any of that 'woke' nonsense and didn't play any of them. And you come across as a total moron and Sony whore by calling someone a "PC boy" and actually defend a company like Sony. That's why MBB is a joke.

Getting personal and a bit hysterical I see. Guess I hit a nerve ;)

Steam Machine has roughly half the GPU of the Pro while they both target 4K.

So if the Pro is weak to you, shouldn't that make the Steam Machine pathetic?

So @The Gilded , any (non-hysterical) response to this?

Or should we start calling you The Gelded?
