Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Anyone else had issues on Afrihost (and Frogfoot) connecting to any urls or connections using a custom port?

I am at my wits end after numerous calls with Afrihost support who troubleshoot by having me reset my fibre router a million times and connect directly to the ONT. No issues until moving into my new place and no issues using mobile data. Only experience the issue accessing the sites/connections with port numbers on Afrihost/Frogfoot fibre. Asked for my IP to be refreshed because thought that might be the issue but despite a call logged with Frogfoot, this seemingly was never done
@Afrigirl
Hi.

Please drop me a PM with your email address.

Just generic time outs. Ping returns the IP address fine but telnet also just eventually times out
same here in SW.. Frogfoot and Afrihost. Apparently my setup is the issue, yet everyone in the estate is also having issues.

The more we say it's INTERMITTENT, the more speed tests and ping tests we need to provide.
Speedtests show full speed, Ping tests show packet drops, but that means nothing.

After a long back and forth with Afrihost, a call was logged with Frogfoot.. techs were onsite, and suddenly the issue is sorted. I'm sorry I probably add to the frustration, but is there not a way that the backbone providers can be held to account a bit more aggressively as in my experience at least 95% (in my case) of the time the issue is not with Afrihost? the frustration is to get the call to the provider rather than the ISP? right now things seem to be perfect, until it isn't then its the whole dance all over again.

@BenJS Morning.

The ticket has been linked to a Network Incident.

@Afrigirl when will Openserves 1gig be available on the website? Will you also run a special on it? Thank you.

I've only found 2 ISP's that show the 1000Mbps package. Cool Ideas and Atomic. R1700 and R1900. Their lower packages are pricey compared to Afrihost.

@Afrigirl
I previously had fibre with Afrihost and canceled my service which was terminated on April 1st.

I'm returning back to the world of fibre and I'm just wondering if it's possible that my service can still be activated without a whole new installation despite my service being termiated for so long?
Openserve covers my area.

My FNO has solid green lights for:
●Power
●PON
●Auth

does those 3 solid green lights mean that my B umber is still active?

I did already place a migration order with Afrihost a few days ago and openserve tried to activate my FNO yesterday, however there was a huge power outage that left our entire Suburb without power from 10am to 6pm. I got whatsapp from openserve saying that my ONT was either unplugged or switched off with no information on how to try the activation again.

Please could you maybe give me your thoughts on if I'll end up having to place a new installation order or if this is possible?

Hi.

With the activation failing, they might end up sending a technician to your premises. Please keep the ONT powered on, you'll be getting a new B-number when activation is completed.

Thank you. The ONT has been powered on since this morning and I'll make sure it stays on. Hopefully power plays nice though, haha.

From my side, do I just leave things and they will automatically try activation again?

I would really like to try avoiding a new installation if possible as this is my works most important month of the year, so both the wait and booking a day off will be very difficult, but if that's what it comes to, then I'll make a plan.

There wont be a need for a new installation.
Please share the AH reference.
