Cool Ideas Fixed 5G/4G Feedback Thread

I changed back to Vodacom. Simply for the moving around with this package option.
Do you notice any improvement in terms of gaming with the Vodacom service or do you still experience latency problems ?

When moving around are you using the SIM in a 5G capable device or a 4G one ? What kind of 4G speeds are you getting ?

Yea lately atleast for gaming it's been good actually. Warzone ping is around 28ms.

Hardly any stutters or lag spikes.

When I move around if working around the country I just take the whole router with me.

Many thanks for the feedback. I am sure that this information will be of interest to some fibre customers who might be considering cheaper options.

The portability aspect is another big advantage of the CI/Vodacom Fixed Wireless service over fibre.

I get a strange issue though. Very random.

When streaming on TikTok live. Every now and then I get a random disconnect on the stream. Warzone still running perfectly just TikTok live disconnects and then comes back.

Other than that it's a great cheap service.

I have also been experiencing some random disconnects recently. I thought they were related to the weak reception in my suburb.

Previously I would lock the router to the 5G N41 band as well as the 4G B1 and B3 bands and this appeared to help but I have recently experienced disconnects even with the locks in place.

Are your disconnects full APN disconnects where you see a red light on the router for a few seconds then the session uptime resets?

I had that issue a while ago but seems to be more stable for me recently.

Yes I think they are. Unfortunately my suburb has not been spared from the current ongoing power outages in Johannesburg and my power was only restored a few hours ago. I will monitor the session uptime to check for disconnects over the next few days.

I have noticed that the Key Log Information file appears to show that my router regularly switches between 4G and 5G although it doesn't appear to affect performance too much. Do you also see many entries in this Log file or does this only happen on my router as a result of my weak 5G signal ?

Unfortunately the ZTE MC801A doesnt seem to have the key log info section.
I could be wrong but I think it might be normal for it to do that, I only see N41 (Vodacom 5G band) being used when there is some data transfer happening, when the connection is idle or when very low traffic is flowing then N41 is missing.

@Jason-ZA: I forgot that you aren't using the G5TS.

Here are some of the Key Log entries relating to my latest reboot which took place around 05:10 this morning while the router was idle. I have highlighted some entries of interest in red. I am not sure whether the reboot was caused by some type of security event due to the Firewall settings I have added to enable my VOIP service.

I will continue to monitor the Session Uptime and Key Log file for reboots.

Anyone else experiencing random disconnections in Centurion?

The solid white light is often switching to dark blue the whole morning today. Even while browsing I'm noticing some lag and the WiFi icon just suddenly disappears.

Does the Session Uptime counter reset every few hours or does the router only switch from 5G to 4G ? Does the front panel light ever change to red ? After a week or two of regular disconnects my Session Uptime has now been stable for more than 24 hours !

If the Session Uptime is resetting regularly, use the current setting to work out exactly when the reset took place and then look in the Key Log Information file to see whether you can find similar entries (ones highlighted in red) to those that I posted above.

No, it never switches to red. Even now it just dropped. Where can I get the keys logs from?

@SHL: Just look in the System -> System Settings menu at the bottom. The Key Log Information screen shows a huge file of router status messages. You should be able to scroll down and look for the messages at a particular time of interest. The most recent messages should be at the bottom of the file.

You might be able to export the file from the Developer Options menu - it appears to be in tar.gz format.

Asking for a friend who wants to sign up for your 300GB-fup package. 5G is really strong where he lives, so streamers like Prime video will eat that quickly in 4K. Will he be able to use the G5TS in 4G mode? (you can't set quality level with Prime, it auto adjust along with your speed)

You can force it to 4G, just use the band selector and untick all the 5G bands
