The South African Police Service is battling to attract minority groups to join the force. Recruitment figures of white, coloured and Indian South Africans have dwindled in the past nine years.

Present figures show that 99,9percent of those entering the basic training institutions for the police are black Africans.

National police spokesperson Director Selby Bokaba said the police service has launched a new campaign after noticing the decline in entry numbers of minority groups.

He said the campaign “was being taken to high schools, malls and churches”.

Bokaba said they had been advertising posts in the police service in newspapers predominantly read by the three race groups.

He said the challenge faced by the police was that they were “fighting for the same piece of cake with the SANDF and Metro police”.

The campaign was launched in Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal – with police showcasing their national criminal record centre, diving unit, communication and liaison unit, air wing, national task force and explosives unit.

Funny how the ANC ostriches don't cry foul over this. The hooha over the DA's provincial government was about not representing population gender ratios, now it seems that SAPS (under the ANC) does not represent race ratios. How's this different or not subject to the same constitutional principles?

The fact that they're not able to attract suitable candidates from other race group is not an excuse. Government (and all governmental departments) must represent population demographics. Isn't that what we've been hearing all along?

Now the SAPS want white cops ???

Just a few years ago white cops were overlooked for promotions.

The Labour Court ruled against the SA Police Service on Friday in a case involving 10 white police officers who were overlooked for promotion because of their race.

Also there are these gems by the idiots supporting the ANC.

Titus Dagane was seen screaming at a group of white police officers, telling them they were going to be killed, as the driver of his car edged past a police vehicle.

I always wanted to join the police, even after I completed Varsity. I handed in my application with a copy of my drivers license and never heard from them

Now they want me to leave my job and apply ? Taking a massive cut in Salary if I'm allowed to join at age 29 and then put my life on the line for them

Welcome to the new SA. You wanted a Job, you where not black enough, now that it's too black they want more color in it...... Sorry SAPS. I love the job and dedication of the majority of you. But pls explain to me how you think you are going to convince the other races to join up now ?

White police officer arresting a black suspect / offender = Blatant Racism, no doubt extreme brutality against previously disadvantaged, court hearings and many disciplinary procedures.

same here. I spoke to a detective last weekend and he told me if you still want to join the police you will have to leave your current job and go to the police college for a year.

During training a police office can expect to recieve a monthly salary of under R4000.00

After you become a full time member your salalry is determined by your rank and number of years in the service

Minority groups will join the force if they are given a chance to be promoted based on their performance. It's that simple. Why would anyone join the force if they knew they were going to be a Constable for life?
