This is happening just in time because I got my first request from a large company for a complete OSS solution... which I know I will be able to offer. They only need the workstations to be able to connect via RDP to a terminal server (only MS machine on the network, and only because of the lack of support from Pastel for Linux).

I think the download servers will be overloaded with download requests the first few days :D

No doubt they will cater for that scenario. :)
 
Okay, so no one in South Africa is allowed to download off the SA servers until... 10 am tomorrow... then you can. Theres a law or something . hehe :D

I wonder what time its going to be released, and I wonder how long till its on the local mirrors?

I reckon not long. Everyone is excited about it.

There are quite a few mirrors here, so I doubt the servers will get nailed. Up, Sun, UCT, IS, Mirror etc

I wanna go out and celebrate it, but alas I am probably one of 4 people in PMB who actually know what Linux is :(

I'll probably just sit on freenode in my underwear drinking Tequila Sunrises :D
 
I'll wait till the weekend to download kubuntu 8.04 with kde 4, so I can spend monday playing around with it
 
I foolishly made plans to go away this weekend. :( :)

Oh well, it'll be waiting for me when I get back for a week's leave. :)

What he said.. is that 1 day to go... american time, or south african time? will it only be available tomorrow, or can we pull it at 12?

Tried the rc 8.04 over the weekend. Word of warning to whom it may concern, VMware server packages not included by default in the repository listing, NOR the 3rd party repository as it was in 7.10. No support or further info on this. I thought it right of me to mention this, as it might save you some time, since you might need to go reinstall 7.10 after this discovery.

Anything further let me know.

lolz, we can login at 9pm, and join #debian, and ask them for support, and see how long it takes them to realise that we are running ubuntu, and they chase us out :D
 
You would think that Shuttleworth could hook up his South Africa bros with a dedicated local mirror!!!:cool:

You don't need the newest Distro for that. I had a client that had a setup like that (same reason) running mostly Mandrake 8 (not my choice, I got it that way) on the desktops. All you need is any distro and install rdesktop...

There are a couple of dedicated local mirrors... the thing is how quickly the system admins in charge of them update them.
 
I see Ubuntu 8.04, is going to have more active directory support... this is really great, cant wait to test it.
