According to Health24

"One in every four South African men have raped a woman, according to a shock report issued by the Medical Research Council. "

Source

I strongly resent this article. Its taken from such a small base that the numbers are not representative of the male population in SA.

Not sure what you guys think.

They should rather say One in 4 men in threed regions of Kwazulu Natal and The Eastern cape are rapists...

Why does any person want to write about something so sick as this? and i cannot see how the info is actually deducted... no "electronic device" can see whether you are raping someone...

I know two.

But i do not only know 8 men.
And i think they forget repeat offenders that rape different woman.

I think its pretty sick.. but so many men want to "be the man". Makes living in this country somewhat crappy.

Well, you know the old saying, 80% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

That said, we are at the top of the list in the world concerning raping. And most rapes are not even reported.

You are joking, right?

Rape is a real problem in this country and you don't want them to write about it? Sweeping it under the rug does not make it go away.

Yea it is a problem but i highly one in four are rapists

I know many men, black white coloured and not one of them have raped a chick. rape is a problem no doubt but so is thumb sucking a BS stat.

Oke i see your point but do you think guys tell you they raped a girl? And what is rape?

Like i said i think you get one guy raping a whole school of girls and then he counts for 20 men. And you get comunities where a woman is not allowed to say no to her husband, so he goes on raping her forever.

Apparently rape is a problem.
I have never raped anyone.
I guess it makes me one of the three.
I must say however, that it pisses me off to read about generalisations like this.
Charlize Theron once made a add about it on tv.
That add pissed me off no end.
According to that add, most South African men are rapists.
(Incidentally, i never watched any of her movies because of that add.)
Statistically, anything is possible. It depends on how scientific the sample was done.

We men are bad people and deserve to be shot by firing squad. The emancipation of women are making us look bad. Do we men deserve this? Your guess is as good as mine.

Well said Mila, the high rape rate in S.A. gives us all a bad name. It's a pity that this is true. While I believe the basis for the stats are correct, the way they have manipulated the stats sucks...

No way 1 in 4 men are rapists, it just goes to show how bad rape is in this country where there are so many rapes they can "produce" a stat like this. Conversely, how many women are raped? They should have done the stat the other way rounds saying x amount in x amount of women in S.A. are being raped...

Imagine going to Ellispark to watch a rugby game and pondering about this during a lull in the game.
Looking around you, watching the guys there and thinking that a quarter of the men there are rapists. Can you even imagine it?
Whodunnit!? LOL!

I am not going to have a good nights sleep tonight.

You would be surprised, because I have sisters I come in contact with a lot of girls (their friends) and the amount of attempted rape and rape stories I have heard is shocking.

It's a huge problem and not just a working class problem.

Interesting point.. if 1 in 4 men are rapists, then can i assume 1 in 4 woman in south africa has been raped ?

1 in 4

1 in 4 could actually be accurate. Remember, the educated and wealthy make up a minority in SA.

Apart from repeated rapes i would say that you would be correct in your assumption.
This prompted me to ask my wife, daughter, my wife's mother and the lady across the street if any of them have ever been raped.( I can assure you i got a few funny looks because of this question, and i had to explain why the information was needed with the result that my wife knows that i am on the internet again and gave me a list of chores as long as your arm):D
None have.

Do you perhaps think that they are lying about it because they are embarrased or could it possibly be the truth?

Survey: 1 in 4 South African Men Admit They Raped Someone

mg.co.za — The study, by the country's Medical Research Council, also found three out of four who admitted rape attacked for the first time while in their teens. It said practices such as gang rape were common because they were considered a form of male bonding.

Are these people for real?
Gang rape is a form of male bonding?
OMG!
Where was this survey taken?
In the jungle perhaps?
Are these animals or human beings that were the subjects of the survey?
