Don't take it personally if the shoe doesn't fit hey, I say make lots of noise about it - the more we discuss it and the more we, as men, stand up to bastards who rape, the better for us, this country and the women we love and protect.
 
we just figured it out in another thread... the statistics are so high cos of Telkom. They have been raping the SA public for so long now that they single handedly skewed the entire survey.
 
I too was offended by her TV add and have also never watched any of her movies. Her little popularity stint turned away a lot of fans and offended quite a few guys I know.
But, rape is bad news, and if I am offended then so be it, however, I could never feel as bad as somebody that has been raped.

That add pissed me off no end.
According to that add, most South African men are rapists.
(Incidentally, i never watched any of her movies because of that add.)
Statistically, anything is possible. It depends on how scientific the sample was done.

We men are bad people and deserve to be shot by firing squad. The emancipation of women are making us look bad. Do we men deserve this? Your guess is as good as mine.

Forgive me for taking exception at being labeled a rapist :o. It's this generalizing and collective guilt crap causes so many problems. By all means make a lot of noise about it but be sensible ffs.
 
Wonder why they claim that... Maybe ppl must learn that raping someone won't/doesn't cure HIV/AIDS.

I agree.
It should be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
Rapists should be castrated. No exceptions.
 
A castrated rapist will simply find another way to do his thing. Rape isn't primarily about sex, it's about power, domination, and humiliation. I think the evidence of women being raped with all sorts of other items, including broken bottles and whatnot, speaks for itself, really.

The only solution is life imprisonment with absolutely no chance of parole, ever.

I assume you frequent Khayalitsha and Soweto where a massive chunk of the population lives? You use internet, you can read, you're probably not hungry. That means you aren't representative of the majority population of the country. How do you think the ANC got elected.

What would really be interesting is if they decided to categorize it by race and then by income level. Of course, that would be the political suicide equivalent of killing a president so...

It is these flawed surveys and statistics that i object to. I also do not believe that a Zulu or a Xhosa would discuss his sexual excapades with someone they do not know. As far as my experience goes (severely limited i must admit) black men do not discuss their sexual habits with strangers. This survey was carried out in Kwazulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape where the demographics shows that Blacks make up 86% of the population in the Eastern Cape and in Kwazulu-Natal Blacks make up 85% percent and Whites only 5% of the population.


The study is therefore not representative of “South African men” when in fact it was only carried out in two out of the nine provinces whose demographic makeup differs tremendously from province to province. The survey was carried out under 1738 mostly Xhosa and Zulu men who are only two of the about 20 main tribes in South Africa.

In fact, i do not believe any of this.

One in four South African men questioned in a survey said they had raped someone, and nearly half of them admitted more than one attack.

The study, by the country's Medical Research Council, also found three out of four who admitted rape had attacked for the first time during their teens.

It said practices such as gang rape were common because they were considered a form of male bonding.

The MRC spoke to 1,738 men in KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape provinces.

The research was conducted in both rural and urban areas and included all racial groups.

Using an electronic device to keep the results anonymous, the study found that 73% of those who admitted rape said they had carried out their first assault before the age of 20.

Almost half who said they had carried out a rape admitted they had done so more than once.

One in 20 men surveyed said they had raped a woman or girl in the last year.

Professor Rachel Jewkes of the MRC, who carried out the research, told the BBC's World Today programme: "The absolute imperative is we have to change the underlying social attitudes that in a way have created a norm that coercing women into sex is on some level acceptable.

"We know that we have a higher prevalence of rape in South Africa than there is in other countries.

"And it's partly rooted in our incredibly disturbed past and the way that South African men over the centuries have been socialised into forms of masculinity that are predicated on the idea of being strong and tough and the use of force to assert dominance and control over women, as well as other men."

She added that all the victims in the main survey were said to be women, but participants were also interviewed about male rape.

The study found that one in 10 men said they had been raped by other men.

Some 3% of the men interviewed said they had coerced a man or a boy into sex.

The participants were also tested for HIV and the authors of the survey were surprised that men who had raped were not more likely to test positive for the virus.

Mbuyiselo Botha, from the South African Men's Forum, which campaigns for women's rights, told the BBC's Focus on Africa programme that any view of women as "fair game" had to be challenged.

Mr Botha, a father of two girls himself, said: "I think that yes, the figures are that high and for us, for me in particular, that is a very sad state of affairs.

"It means that we continue in South Africa to be one of the highest capitals of rape in the world.

"I don't think it's cultural per se; I think it has to do with how a lot of us men worldwide were raised. The issues of dominance against women, issues of inequality, are pervasive and you find them throughout the world."

South Africa's government has been repeatedly criticised for failing to address the country's rape epidemic.

A recent trade union report said a child was being raped in South Africa every three minutes with the vast majority of those cases going unreported.

Rapists castrated, murderers killed, theives relieved of their hands, escapees relieved of their feet.

Perfect world, right? Some may point out that doing the above is being as bad as the criminals. But then others would point out that to fight crime you must be totally unwavering and ruthless.

Of course, in a country where murderers are killed, rapists castrated, etc, people who speak out against their state are either executed or simply have their tongues cut out. 99% of this forum, what with all it's I-REALLY-LOVE-ANC-governing talk, would be dead.
 
And based on their findings amongst 1,738 men in KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape they then proceeded to condemn 1/4 out of every men as rapists. Anybody know how many men there are in ZA? Its the old charlize theron thing again, use a generalisation to draw attention to the problem and then sit back smugly and say "we are right" and so be it. The frightening thing though, what if its true? I am afraid we then have a serious problem that will not just go away overnight.
