Hey

Last week my 1Tb seagate Hdd crashed. for now it seems I lost all my Data...

It still works I can feel the drive moving when pluged in..
I checked the Bios to pick up the Hdd but nothing..
I also checked it with other random Sata cables for a connection problem
Same thing... nothing..

Only thing now is to see whether it will do the same on a other pc?

I hope the data can still be recovered...

Any suggestions?

PS the drive is not more than 6months old.... !!

Thx

Another one bites the dust. I suspect you have one of the models with the fooked firmware.

Care to post your model# here? (ST31000333AS Baracuda 7200.11 ?)

Alternatively it has suffered a hardware failure wich is also not to uncommon, does it make clicking sounds?

You could try and recover the data yourself or you could send it to a data recovery company.

Is it a 7200.11 drive? If so, did you update the firmware?

If you didn't know, there was recently somewhat of a scandal regarding the 7200.11 drives where they died suddenly. Seagate has since released a fix.

Note that if it has died, the more you try to run the drive, the less likely it is that your data can be recovered.

Like ponder pointed out, there are numerous threads on this, so just browse the forums. I'll recommend that you contact the guys at Computer Storage Services ( www.cssi.co.za ) , because I had the same problem and they got me sorted!
Good luck, I know the feeling!

First thing you wanna do is run Seagate Diagnostic tools on it, and see if it passes the complete test.

If not, PM me and I can help you out with the Data Recovery.. you in Cape Town?

Personally, I ALMOST bought a Seagate 1TB last week, went with the WD Black edition instead. Cost me a bit more... hopefully it pays off

That is what happened to mine went it bust, seemed like it was working but to my pc it was a goner, go get it replaced and make sure you keep back-ups of everything.

Then it's most likely the faulty firmware. If you want, let HTC_Guy do the recovery for you, otherwise, contact the guys at cssi, they have special equipment/software for this specific issue.

The problem is that there is so much info here re the firmware upgrade that no-one really knows the correct story.

It doesn't help that the info coming from Seagate has been vague, contradictory and confusing.

What are you confused about? The error was a off by 1 error caused by the old firmware (it writes a location to the hard-drive internal log that does not exist, which is off by 1), the new firmware fixes this problem.

You don't need to backup to flash, I did it, no data was lost. You may also be able to use the hard-drive again by just flashing it, at least that is what I read.

You are sounding like Dr. Phil. "Dr. se moenie 'n **** wees nie."

You are spreading FUD. If I had the serial interface I would do the data recovery for all MYBB users at R1K. It's not rocket science.

rofl, thanks guy's :P

HTC_Guy, sorry man im situated in pretoria.. other wise i'll go to cssi,

?

Yep, I'll strongly recommend you going to Computer Storage Services. They are in Midrand (Waterfall office park I think).

Good luck man!

Thanks I'll keep you guy's updated on this situation..

(Me thinks, ME have to buy a new 1TB drive to get me lost data back) :D

I just bought one of these 1TB infected drives on Saturday...

Last week my 1Tb seagate Hdd crashed.
I have successfully used a Boot UP disk, Bart PE (incorporate some hdd diagnostic/repair with it) to fix numerous clients disks. Works well if the disk is "fixable" - trick is to boot separately from O/S and see if you can copy any data first.
