Shew, thought for a second that you were planning to upgrade the chick
right so Friday is the 1 year anniversary with the SO
no we not married but I would still like to make an effort to do something nice
she's not the flashy "spend millions on me please" kinda girl
more the down-to-earth kinda type...
looking for a good idea though, something nice and romantic to keep her on her toes and to prove that Im not getting old and boring

Take her on one of those sun downer cruises and then to dinner. A nice place that is still relaxed.

Wait hold up a second, you haven't had sex with her for a year? Wow you know how cruel it will be when your day comes in 3 years and she drops you at the last minute, like o sorry i just realized it wasn't working but thanx for giving up your sex life for 3 years, it really meant the world to me.

Secondly, I think that just something small would go down well. A small bunch of flowers when you meet up with her, and a little present would be great, something like a small necklace with a little pendant. You say she's a down-to-earth girl, so she won't want big bling. Just something small but special would be appreciated. You don't have to break the bank either - don't stress about real silver or gold or whatever. Just get something that's pretty and has significance.
You haven't mentioned what sort of activities you guys like to do normally. A list of "normal" stuff would be helpful for us to suggest something different to the norm. For example, if you go to the movies a lot, then don't do that. Rather try something you haven't done, like going to the theatre instead. Still a show, about the same length, but different atmosphere. If you eat out a lot, rather try dining in or having a picnic. If she's adventurous, perhaps try something like horse riding or quad-biking.

no, I havent had sex with HER for a year
we quite serious, and we have every intention of getting married. I think when you get to my age, one tends to know pretty quickly whether or not the person is right for you or not. we had a good idea from the beginning that we were well matched, so we knew.
it was OUR idea. she's a virgin, but Im not. I have quite a hectic history, but changed my lifestyle about 18 months ago. but thats another story for another day.
yes, we slip up here and there, but generally we pretty good and manage to control ourselves.

Well it depends on how sexual you are but what would worry me the most is that she is very traditional which means when you do nail her (make sweet love) missionary could get very old very fast.
