I've looked at all the feedback and only one person in the "Eastern Cape Region" indicated by poll that they had been upgraded. So it may not even be Port Elizabeth. As the second most populated province in SA it is hard to see at this stage how "Numerous ADSL subscribers", "Port Elizabeth" and "upgraded" can appear in the same sentence.
I live in Tableview, Cape Town - how can I check if my exchange is Metro-Ethernet and ADSL 2+ ready? I want to know if my area is on Telkom's jobcard for speed upgrades. Telkom call-centres are useless. I have called both 10219 and 0800 375 375 and the idiots there don't even know what I am talking about. They are blissfully unaware that the company they represent are upgrading the speeds, so can give me no info. Which rock do these people live under?
Out of interest, is there any way to find out how far you are form the exchange? I recently moved to a new area and my line speed dropped quite a bit. I used to get about 3.8 and now only get 2.5. Logged numerous calls with Telkom and every time they reset the port after which it will sync at a better speed and then it'll be back to 2.5 in the morning. How do I get them to address the issue?
Juice
Aasvoëlkop? Seriously, where is that in the Joburg area?
I'm quite curious as to whom in Bloemfontein said they've been activated. Nothing at this part of town nor at one of the other areas with a relatively high 4mbit density.

Im also in Tableview, west beach, after seeing your post i phoned 10219 and went option 1 and again option 1, there youll find someone who can help you, however my exchange is Blouwberg and after telkom did a test on my line to my exchange they said the exchange only supports 4 meg and has to be upgraded to adsl2![]()
Dude, I don't know what person you spoke to, but I have just tried again (0800 375 375, who said I must speak to 10219, who said I must call 10215, who said I must call 0800 375 375). Round and round and round and round... Nobody can answer my question, so they pass the buck. All I want to know is: IS MY EXCHANGE METRO-ETHERNET and/or ADSL2 + compliant. I might as well be asking Telkom if a 180/90/15 inch tyre will fit on the front wheel of an Airbus A 380-800. F***ing idiots!!!
How will that info help you ?
Either it is and will be upgraded or it isn't and wont be upgraded. Its not like you can do anything about it.
Also tell me why they should be wasting time on calls like that when they could be dealing with proper issues. Like everything to do with Telkom/SA internet/Seacom etc, let the dust die down and then see what your options are.
BTW I'm on the Metro Ethernet (I saw the fiber being laid) and my exchange does not support 4meg (I asked a while ago)... not much can change that other than me waiting to see what happens after the upgrades are complete.

LOL, Slash, calm down to a mild panic, i phoned telkom about a week ago to try find out exactly what you are wanting to know and i got the same run around as what you got today, today when i phoned 10219 the dude ran a test on my line to my exchange and was able to deduce from there that my exchange needs the upgrade, hopefully you are not at the blauwberg exchange, im also desperate for a faster line as i need it for gaming purposes, im tired of having a high ping and suffering with lag, try again maybe you lucky.
