10 Mbps ADSL: Upgraded exchanges emerge

Your ping wont improve with this upgrade BTW.

I'm also desperate for a faster line... im just saying that I'm sure that Telkom do not know how each and every upgrade is going to go. They don't know the line quality of every line or if the users even have ADSL2+ modems. They also don't know how the network is going to handle an entire exhange were everyone has 10 meg. Perhaps its going to be too much in some places.

All they are doing is seeing what they can offer people.

Ping should improve seeing as some games use upload and upload doubles when upgrading from 4 meg to 10 meg

When i had 384k my wow ping was higher than when i got 4 meg line

Improvements in ping are the reciprocal of bandwidth, so you will hardly notice any difference once you are above 384Kbps.

A typical ping packet is 32 bytes (256 bits). On a 384K package the upload speed is (up to) 128Kbps, so a ping will take about 2ms to transmit upstream (and 0.7ms downstream). On a 512K package the upload speed is (up to) 256Kbps, so the ping will take 1ms to transmit upstream.

If that 1ms difference matters to you, then you must have very stringent requirements!?

Edit: I finally got upgraded to 7Mbps (640K upstream) on Sun 29th, and can confirm that ping times differ by less than 1ms from those I got on a 4Mbps (512K upstream) line...
