There are no specific details yet - received the information from the technical side of Neotel - not marketing of product development ;) It should also be noted that this service will be aimed at the business market.

Will make a big difference in the business market if it is indeed launched at the R3000 price point with a high usage limit.
 
any more details links to pricing structure and where it will be available i want one directly connected to the back of my PC :P

and now finaly i will be able to create a small datacenter in my cupboard use all those old PC's flying around
 
R3000 is reasonable for a business...but what kind of usage limits could business see for this price.
 
Following questions come out...
*How mush do they charge for pulling fibre to my house? R1000? R10000? R100000?
*How long it will take to implement (for residents)? 1 year? 2 years? 5 years? 10 years?
*What cap allowance will be? 35GB? 60GB? 100GB?
*What coverage will be? And it will be available to anyone whoever (residents included) will be able to afford?

Telkom already offers FTTx to businesses. They always have. The comparison in the article is between a optic fibre-based offering and Telkom's copper-based ADSL offerings.

Why? Should you not compare it to Telkom's fibre offerings and the pricing thereof in order to give a better pricing comparison?

I'd think mostly because 10mbps is achievable over copper and it's dirt cheap to install compared to what fibre traditionally costs (around R30k a link). What I don't agree with is pitting the fibre against ADSL as the technologies are fundamentally different in their offerings, partcularly upload speeds, a better compariso would have been against the Telkom G.SHDSL services with comparable speeds (Telkom seels old diginet and Martis as the same service but the implementation is fundamentally different) Diginet ports were baseband modems, whereas the martis stuff is actually a DSL based technology.

Not sure why this is only being noted now. I believe that Noetel has offered the 10mbps fibre for at least the last 6 months as my work has had the 10mbps Neotel service for this duration. Connection is really fast. It is a symmetric service delivering 10mbps up and down. On speedtest at 6pm the other night I was getting aroung 8mbps down and 5mbps up. There was likely a number of people and services still using the connection.
 
neotel, frankly, is a waste of time. never has a company brought so much hope, and delivered so little.
 
Regretfully still out of the league of the man-on-the-street :(
