10 Mbps uncapped ADSL service

are any of the isp's out there even considering a good high capped account instead of uncapped like 50/100/200GB accounts?

If they did that, they couldn't justify shaping you to hell and back, and their network would implode because they don't have the bandwidth required to support such a model, as I understand it.

Titan Packages from WA.

Although, they only sold a limited amount of them, our office is on the 50GB package and we never go down :)

ye well the frikken problem is: if you are on a 4mb line & downloading constantly one can do about 700gigs in a month.. without the line problems of late.. eg seacom etc.
so what will one do on a 10mb line?? 1.5tb's???
so u pay for 1tb & only get 200gigs at most!! wtf, so much for the 1.5/gig pricing for the original uncapped accounts!!
i guess the isp's thought hey what the f we can charge more than that especially as we paying much less than what the customers were paying before!!!

ffs this ****ry is backwards!!!!

oh & for all you that think that a 384 line is the way to go.. most countries have a minimum of at least 10mb's so wake the f up & get with it people..

Or... look at it this way

You are buying a contended consumer service

Say its 1:20 which is quite good for consumer adsl

your 700 gigs becomes 35 gb that you are actually paying for

I say u getting it quite good with 200 gb's (actually contention of 1:3.5 - pretty frikking good)

You only get your 700 gigs if you buy a 1:1 contended bandwidth pipe, but i bet you wont want to pay the price :)

The isp's are selling uncapped yes, but as an accepted norm everywhere in the world its CONTENDED

Nowhere on the advertising does it say uncontended

so what you are saying is that i must pay 899 for 30ggis??? are u frikken mad or what!!!

Nope i was just correcting you claim that you are entitled to 700 gb's

Lay off the agro attitue, a forum is for debating mate...

I do not believe the new shaping policies are right or ethical.
The only right way is if your pipe is equally shared according to the contention ratio.

There are various ways to accomplish this, the simplest is to implement queue aging

ie user 1 downloads a 4 gb iso, and after a while user 2 decides he wants to browse the web or download a small file.
Traffic management system penalizes the traffic queue that has used the most bandwidth for the longest time.
Once user 2 is finished user 1 returns to full speed as there is spare bandwidth in the shared pipe

The outcome is that user2 still experiences good quality browsing/small download speeds while user 1 can download his/her large files

Actually that's exactly what you're paying for (If the contention ratio is 20:1 you're *paying* for about 55GB). The fact that you're able to pull more than that is because there are still a lof of users paying the same as you but pulling less than 55GB - you're being subsidised.

Take a look at the cheapest R/gig capped (not local only) offerings and work out how much you would pay for 55GB a month... and then tell me you're not getting value for money when you're pulling more than 55GB on your uncapped account.

Agreed, but let's not stray off the point. Bandwidth throttling is Bull if you're trying to advertise your service as uncapped. Now fair enough, AXXess are limited by their ISP, IS in this case, but still, it's not uncapped Axxess! So stop calling it that.

R899 for 30GB is R29 a gb. That's what you would pay for normally. So, it stands to reason that you're not being ripped off.

These uncapped accounts (especially Openweb's after hours R899 10mbps "uncapped") are actually very, very good.

You only get shaped AFTER 200GB. Hmm... R4.50/gb and people STILL complain? Really?! 7 months ago we paid, what, R70/gb? And now it's reduced 1500% over SEVEN FRIGGING MONTHS. Sigh.

Telkom could offer 300gb/s internet - free of charge too - and people would complain that there isn't enough to download...

Yippee Telkom.I fibally had an upgrade on the excange.I now sync at 7008 down compared to 4096 down and 640 up compared to 512 up.Speedtest net shows an an increase in speed to Johannesbrg (my closest servr of 5,08 down against 3,43 down upstream approximate increase ,5 Mb.
