10 Mbps uncapped ADSL service

Oh, does that upper 50% of users being throttled and/or shaped to death thing apply to this package as well?

This is the uncapped express+ account.
The ultimate in leech capability.

When they say after hours and weekends you can use your 10Mb/s, I'm quite sure they mean it.
This is the account that they boast with on their front page.

So I doubt very much anyone who pays for this will be unhappy.

Yup, saw it running 750KB/s this morning.

Guys, this account is the king if you want high usage. Yes, it SUCKS during the day, but after hours and over weekends you get FULL SPEED.

Torrents don't run full speed, but there are other means to stay up to date.

well, we had the express+ 384 line and the going was good until they introduces the silly 50% shaping policy, if you ask me its all getting a bit "grey" now and ISP's are pushing everyone across to these "uncapped" packages where they shape your connections to maximise their profits, i mean top 50% of users is so vague, if you call in and complain about being shaped they can say, sorry you're in the top 50% and there is no way for you to prove otherwise, also you have a fallacy of composition where everyone is trying to be in the bottom 50% by using less and less and all it means is the ISP's are making more money.

take a moment to ponder about these % shaping policies, there is no way you can fight against it

user: I only used 10 gigs on my uncapped line which im paying R900 for, why am i being shaped on the 3rd of the month?
ISP: well sir, you're in the top 50% of users and as per our policy you are now unfortunately shaped
user: oh but I have only used 10 gigs which is such a small amount
ISP: 50%.........

From their website:

"Should you be one of the lucky ones that is getting up to 10Mbps on your ADSL line speeds, please use your account responsibly, or else Internet Solutions will enforce their stricter user policy on your profile.

Express+ Uncapped: The services are offered in three line speeds; 384, 512 and 1024 Kbps and carry a threshold of 5, 10 and 20 GB respectively in a 10 day window. Should a product threshold be exceeded then the line speed (ie 384, 512 or 1024kbs) for the respective service will be halved from 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. during weekdays. For the period outside these times, the line speed will be restored to full line speed and will be subject to moderation based on the "top 20%" clause mentioned below.

* After Hours User Policy NEW!

◦10 Day Rolling WIndow - If you're in Top 20% of IS users for this connection speed, you will be shaped
◦User Policy applies to After Hours (8PM - 8AM), Weekends & Public Holidays
* Daytime User Policy

◦10 Day Rolling WIndow - This account is Unshaped until you are rate limited by IS (see Daytime User Policy Table)
◦User Policy applies to Weekdays (8AM - 8PM)
◦After hours usage applies to 10 day rolling window"

Ok so now it's not looking that nice any more.
I see their top bandwidth muncher list is also off the site.
It's probably fair to say this package has lost it's best value.

well you have to hide the amount the other users are downloading in order to hide behind your % rules
What other reason would you have for removing a stat showing how much you could possibly use with the account

With the 10Mpbs it just means you will hit their AUP faster. No point in even looking at 10Mbps until all these 'uncapped' problems are sorted out.

after hours usage policy is rubbish, IS fekd us hard and fekd up the so called uncapped adsl in SA, they just make up there own rules when it suits them

why say unlimited downloads on the advert when it clearly is limited

i just can't believe someone actually thought they would get away with this % shaping crap, its common knowledge that people in this area are going to look at things closely and realise very quickly when they are getting shafted!

sigh .. would be nice to afford 10 meg .. never mind the account that comes with it .. but seriously .. this AUP stuff is a little rubbish .. I dont really get it .. if everyone only downloads 50 gigs .. then you only need to download 51 gigs to be the bad guy .. but if everyone pushes the limits .. then everyone scores .. a really wierd setup .. Also .. as more guys get moved into the top 20% and throttled .. others will overtake them and they in turn will get throttled .. but do the previously throttled users get unthrottled ... eish .. my head is spinning ..

yip, as I said fallacy of composition, everyone doing the same thing all screwing each other, and the only people that are smiling are the ISP's
