I know this topic has been discussed to pieces and at length want to find out if anyone has got lucky to get contact a number to get some sort of information if this is going to still be happening or if its just a rumour?
Phoning Telkom as usual is a waste of time and energy

@jackshiels - if that website says that you exchange supports 10mbps (10Mbps Enabled:
Yes) then I should be able to phone and ask them to upgrade me?

Still no 10Mbps in Centurion :(((( Is it just me or is it crazy that they can only upgrade between 6 and 9 exchanges per month? At this rate it will take years.

Nope your dslam has to be upgraded also that is the problem I have when my exchange is 10 meg enabled. The website only shows exchanges.

Time to check if i can get 10 meg, 4 meg just not cutting it atm :(

My exchange is supposedly 10mb enabled. I just phoned telkom and after IVR hell, got through to someone who said it is only enabled for 6mb (wtf?) but he's set the profile to 8mb (wtf) and so now it should sync at 6 (wtf?)

wtf?

although being upgraded to 8/10mbps does not mean you going to have a stable connection - my exchange can "take" the upgrades but my line drops every couple days so i just gave up and downgraded to 4 megs and left it at that :booohoo

Perhaps your line attenuation is too high (because you're too far from the DSLAM) to be able to get anything faster than 6Mbps. Just be glad that you can get at least 4Mbps without any issues.

The call centre operators are limited by what they see on their screens.

When they call up my profile the screen shows [possible] settings of up to 6MB even though the exchange has been 10MB capable forever.

So my maximum speed is 6MB - even though I had 10MB before they 'upgraded' my exchange - simply because the setting isn't available to the call-centre operators <sigh>

My understanding is that someone in Technical decides what shows on the screens ... and until they decide to allow 10MB [on the screens] the rest of us are screwed.

With that calculator based on sync speed, attenuation and SNR, my line is supposedly capable of 13mb/s ;)

you dont need wait for them if you have 4mb line atm though webafrica , just phone telkom to bump it up.

my line is with mweb and i phoned telkom to bump from 4mb to 6mb, took me 5min and it was done.

I think that the lower bandwidths are being milked first. SA consumers are always getting a raw deal.

@Sinbad:
Those line speed calculators aren't always accurate. Could you please post your stats here, and then we might be able to give you better estimates on your maximum line speed.

those stats are good you could upgrade to like 8 megs
