10mb -> 20mb, upgrade procedure ?

Whoever tell you be wrong, I think they give you whatever you can take best.

How long have you been at that speed? I'm sure they switch you over quite soon :D then, you will fail to sync. :(

That was today that they put me there, they are welcome to move me over if it means I'll hit 20mb. I'd just have to pop out and buy a VDSL modem then.

Aah I see :) I just don't have the extra money to buy a VDSL Modem right now :D they're like R1000 for the cheapest ones hahaha

I honestly dont know how things will turn out as in other threads "transition" states have been mentioned and getting cut off after being on 15mbit for a while, who knows.

Yea. Its so up in the air. It seems that although South Africa has compatibility for VDSL - it isnt really being promoted as such. It is rare to find compatible routers etc etc. Its just a big mission :D

Worth it though :P

I've been on 20MB ADSL2+ since last year August with no issues. I couldn't hold a decent sync on VDSL, so ended up on ADSL2+

Suspect my issue is more to do with the Pace Telkom modem than the line distance, as I'm 19db downstream at 20Mb. With the Pace the ADSL2+ would be sitting at 25db and drop every couple of hours. With the Netgear it dropped to 19 and never drops sync.

Glad if the 20Mb profile becomes "official"

So I log a ticket with afrihost wanting to be sure that 15mbit is where I am sitting and not going to end up cut off for VDSL in some sort of transition period etc...

I end up being told for faster I need a VDSL modem, the exact opposite of what live support said. The joys.

So for faster than 15Mbps you need VDSL, or for faster than 10Mbps you need VDSL? :D

If I don't need the VDSL Router - ill be switching over asap! :D

Faster than 15, yet in this very thread there is a person with 20 on adsl2+

There's no harm in asking if you can get a Adsl2+ upgrade you never know.

That's the thing :/ I have asked and they say it won't work, which is what I'd expected. But I think I'll try upgrade and see what happens :) I mean, im quite into this sort of this, but VDSL I know nothing about :D

One thing to test is setting your current router into ADSL2+ mode and seeing if you sync, it should be at some arb number (not a multiple of 1024)

It seems like Telkom are rolling out a new offering. 20mbps on ADSL 2+. I checked the Telkom ADSL checker and noticed that 20mbps was available in my area. Applied for it thinking it was VDSL but was told it will be ADSL 2+ as my exchange is not connected to a MSAN. The exchange is connected via IMAX apparently so I would get 20mbps download and 1mbps upload.
Just contacted Telkom and upgrade was done on ADSL 2+.

My lastest Speedtest: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3569759606

Am happy thus far.
