VDSL
0-0.8km = 40Mbps
0.8-1.2km = 20Mbps
ADSL2+
0-1.0km = 20Mbps
I thought as soon as you go over 10Mbps - they switch you to VDSL? Therefore, ADSL2+ wouldnt work

Whoever tell you be wrong, I think they give you whatever you can take best.
How long have you been at that speed? I'm sure they switch you over quite soonthen, you will fail to sync.

That was today that they put me there, they are welcome to move me over if it means I'll hit 20mb. I'd just have to pop out and buy a VDSL modem then.
Officially you are wrong. Unofficially Telkom are soft-trialling 20Mbps ADSL since the beginning of the month.I thought as soon as you go over 10Mbps - they switch you to VDSL? Therefore, ADSL2+ wouldnt workOr am I wrong?

I honestly dont know how things will turn out as in other threads "transition" states have been mentioned and getting cut off after being on 15mbit for a while, who knows.
So I log a ticket with afrihost wanting to be sure that 15mbit is where I am sitting and not going to end up cut off for VDSL in some sort of transition period etc...
I end up being told for faster I need a VDSL modem, the exact opposite of what live support said. The joys.
Faster than 15, yet in this very thread there is a person with 20 on adsl2+
There's no harm in asking if you can get a Adsl2+ upgrade you never know.
One thing to test is setting your current router into ADSL2+ mode and seeing if you sync, it should be at some arb number (not a multiple of 1024)
Good to hear!It seems like Telkom are rolling out a new offering. 20mbps on ADSL 2+. I checked the Telkom ADSL checker and noticed that 20mbps was available in my area. Applied for it thinking it was VDSL but was told it will be ADSL 2+ as my exchange is not connected to a MSAN. The exchange is connected via IMAX apparently so I would get 20mbps download and 1mbps upload.
Just contacted Telkom and upgrade was done on ADSL 2+.

Am happy thus far.
Good to hear!
