Hi Guys

I'm moving to Cape Town in January on a 1 year contract. Is there a comprehensive list of areas in Cape Town that were upgraded to 10mb?

If a thread like this has already been created, please point me in it's direction.

Thanks a bunch.

You could try random numbers on that telkom availability lookup site. For example if you google 021 sea point. You'll get a phone number like 021434xxxx or 021439xxxx.
I know someone in Sea Point who got upgraded to 10mbit, but then they downgraded it to 7mb to make it stable.
Afaik Camps Bay is still on 4mbit.

Edgemead still @ 4Mbps

Why don't you tell us what suburb you are moving to? Or are you going to decide your residence based on 10Mbps availability, which seems a bit weird?

IMHO 10Mbps is largely a waste of time... (I'm on 7Mbps at 2.5km from Clareinch exchange.)

I read an article a while back about how broadband speed can affect your land value.

Why not look for a place that has a good line and close to an exchange, I think it's a good idea.
Sure if a good offer comes up with a poor line Im not saying don't get it - its just a positive factor.

I don't think Edgemead will get upgraded anytime soon

damn! :(

oh well... I think the prices for 10mbps uncapped are retarded anyway.... so doesnt really make a difference to me

would be nice though if I could get it and pay R800 for uncapped, I would.... :D

Could Telkom not give you that kind of information? Oh wait, its Telkom.

What's weird about that? I barely get 2meg on my line & would gladly use the opportunity of a relocation to get better speeds. Prolly not the most important factor, but certainly a differentiator.

Sometimes one has to go to Telkom 'cos Telkom surely ain't coming to you.

based on speed you will never get your true 10mb not in south africa at least i am on 10mb uncapped at office and even when no one is using the internet i get roughly a 5mb connection

I'm in Table View (021 556) and still on 4mbit. I recently did the self install and the verify page said that my service would be activated at 10mbit, but when checking on Telkom's 10mbit checker it says that it's not supported yet. I'm just wondering why it says its activated at 10mbit though (it didn't even try to sync higher than 4mbit). Took a screenshot of the verification message: http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/2125/adslverify.jpg

Anybody else see this kind of thing?

Lol! I definitely want to stay in Southern Suburbs, but was hoping to get an upgrade to 10mbps as up here in JHB, it seems all the dodgy areas seem to have gotten the 10mbps upgrades

From another thread I saw, parts of Plumstead and Kenilworth are upgraded. The easiest would be to check on the Telkom site like someone said.

Just basically go through all the 021 7xx numbers.

Rondebosch and Clareinch (Kenilworth and Calremont) have definitely been upgraded to 10 Mbps.

These are not 'dodgy' areas by any definition, just residential suburbs with lots of ADSL users...

Hey timvdwest,

In what part of Table View are you? I'm in Table View, close to the refinery close to Blaauwberg Road, syncing at between 7Mbps and 8Mbps depending on the day. I was synced up at full 10Mbps but got dropped a few weeks later :(
