I know that this has been posted a million times, but I just don't wanna read through all the pages listed :( sorry

I upgraded my line to 4mb speed (as I saw on the Telkom page that my area now is capable of 10mb speed). Now when I do the speed test, I hardly go above 3mb. The router shows that I am on the 4mb line.

Will I be automatically upgraded to 10mb or do I have to call in?

Thanks!

It will depend on the condition and length of the copper cable from your modem to the DSLAM/IMAX.

Post your stats here and someone clever will assist you (that counts me out!).

If your line is OK, then you'll have to phone and request the upgrade.

Unfortunately you have to phone in, my experience wasn't to bad it took less than 10 minutes.

wasnt that simple for some of us. the website has been updated per exchange by the PR people, but they dont seem to care that the actual exchange is done in blocks per exchange.

so while your number is 10mb "ready" according to the website, that does NOT mean that you will be able to upgrade. Good luck finding out if your block has been done, took me ages and had to eventually get in touch with the flippin exchange manager lol

was a mission and a half, but once all done...

call telkom and asked to have your port upgraded to 10mb. it's as simple as that. the tricky part is getting the 10mb port. With telkom, i found it's like playing russian roulette, call the help center several times and eventually someone is going to help you.

I am on 4mbps, and also sync at that speed.

But my speedtest results seldom exceed 1mbps.

My noise margins are 31 down and 27 up.
Output power (dBm) is 125 and 109.
Attenuation (dB) is 7 and 1.

My internet experience is quite slow, and I am considering cancelling ADSL and just using Cell C.

Any advice, should I try for 10 mbps, or just cancel ?

Is there any point to 10mbps if my througput is so low?

who is your ISP?

I was one of the lucky ones that had my line upgraded to 10Mb automagically when the rollouts began. (Arcadia, Pta).

However, lately I'm not so sure how lucky I am. SNR margin down never goes above 7db anymore :(

Anyway, before phoning Telkom, check at what speed your modem synchs. If it's at 10 already, then it could be your ISP that's limiting the speed.
