Hasn't anyone noticed ...

If you take the individual ISP readings given by MyBB they are all BELOW the cited average for the country of 2.89Mbps! ie, everyone is getting speeds below the average.

Then again, the fastest ISP cited on Net Index is Uninet, at 41.8 Mbps, which is basically the universities pumping their low cost, big pipe via Tenet.

If you removed these readings and took only the commercial providers, surely SA would be way further down in the ranks?:erm:

Parrow seems to always be on top and I've even been blamed for it :)

But I suspect it might be MWEB headoffice's core tests that's driving the average up. All those Seacom tests to check if the cable is up. ;)

Exactly, hurts you to have many 384 clients for these tests. Better would be to measure actual throughput to paid for speed.

Yes, that puts it in perspective - mobile guys generally can't compete there (Try VOIP and video before you argue with me on that one)

Ha ha, nice try. Parow has fibre to the exchange, the exchanges have the latest equipment and many business customers buying the fastest ADSL line they can get. Perfect, dense business customers with solid backhaul right there. If only that were the case in so many other areas!

Aaah, lol ...... yeah, that's if I find the time to game. Running a pub may not give me that much free time :D

I would love to know, maybe a main Telkom node?? Maybe the cables (copper) are also new allowing for better throughput?? I just assume almost ALL the users are on Fastest ADSL and the geographic area is quite small. I mention this as in another test by MyBB for ADSL Parow had similar stats, so I doubt the large, fast corporate networks are making the difference. I can't find the link now unfortunately to the article:(

EDIT: Some additional info-
Telkom have a huge data centre near by and they use the Parow exchange as an alternative routing centre. Not to mention SARS, SANLAM and so forth connecting in to the same exchange!

From our broadband providers past pattern, we are getting speeds and bigger caps etc just at a slower pace. If they would just hurry before i pass away, i will be eternally grateful knowing the kids will enjoy high speed internets :D.

Its about time we see 10/GB on mobile providers both postpaid and prepaid and not on a promo basis mind you (lets leave that for another discussion) :p
