10mbs Upgrade Test Results

Phone Telkom. Ask.

which number should we phone, I just phoned 0800 375 375 and they told me it's just a test and if I don't have 10mb yet then I should wait.

Edit: well I phoned 10219 and now they say my exchange isn't 10mb compatible, when I phoned the same number yesterday they told me it was :(

Hi Sandman, thanks for your response.

The MWEB account is a 4mb uncapped, I didnt even realise that I had to get MWEB to change that to a 10mb account.

But I should've realised they would use every opportunity to bleed me dry!

As per your previous message, if its much more expensive then its probably not even worth upgrading to a 10mbs uncapped account with MWEB.
I use an Openweb after hours uncapped account @ R899 per month. From 7pm-7am on week days and all weekend the line runs maximum speed. For 7am-7pm on week days I use an Afrihost 50gb account @ R475 which is unshaped and runs at maximum speed.

If you not using the line much during the day or don't require 10mb during the day then the after hours uncapped account is superb!! It runs at around 192kbps when it is throttled between 7am-7pm.

and oke you can't phone them :/

they tell me that my exchange supports 10 meg but my line doesn't ? WTF

sigh i want my 10 meg

Um no. You just call telkom and ask them to up you to 10meg.

Thats what I did. Total con****ulation on Telkom side. No you most phone this department, no you at the wrong department. But you already cleared for 4-10Meg. No you it is a business account you must phone 10217 etc etc etc. After 1hour a gave up and tried the self service install for new line. Installed and very happy on 10 Meg

LOL dude. You didn't think the "4MB/s" in there gave it away?

So you all ready had a working DSL line? What exactly did you do? I'm asking because DSL checker says I can get 10MBs but when I phoned Telkom (0800 375 375) they told me that it does not support 10MB...

Edit : I see you ordered a new line? Damn I don't have multiple lines, why does their checker say 10MB and when you call them they say 4MB !$#$ it pisses me off.

I've had a working DSL line since DSL was available in SA. All I did was use the Line Checker and when it said my exchange has been upgraded I called 0800-375-375 option 3 option 2 and the dude on the other end checked my line and upgraded it to 10mbs all in the space of 3 mins.

I called Telkom again and they say no the website is wrong. Even if it says 10Mb it just means there is a project open to upgrade the exchange to 10Mb and that could take another year or two.

Sometimes getting a helpful consultant from telkom is luck of the draw.
From my experience, if you have a 4meg line, it will automatically be upgraded to 10meg (Thats if the exchange supports it).
