I noticed when i was downloading a game from steam I would get huge packet loss and internet basically dies but the game still downloads fine (doesnt drop speed or anything so the connection is consistent)

If i do a speedtest or download a test HTTP file I do not see these results.

I got a 500Meg line but steam downloads seem to top out at about 23MB/s

Do you think because my line isnt reaching the full 500Meg that its being over saturated?

Cheers.

Ping statistics for 192.168.0.1:
Packets: Sent = 7416, Received = 7378, Lost = 38 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 318ms, Average = 0ms

Likely the router struggling to handle the speeds of your connection

Possibly or a local lan bottleneck.

You were pinging 1.1.1.1 during the download, that packet loss looks as a direct reflection from the download speeds. You also had a speed test of 300Mbps? I get close to my 100Mbps and my downloads pretty much run at around 9MBps to 10MBps max. Keeping in mind there is traffic overhead as well.

Do you get 500Mbps with nothing running?

Try using Cloudflares WARP and see what you get.

I'm inclined to agree with William1102 - what are the specs of your router and switch (if not the same device).

Do you get your full bandwidth when downloading a test HTTP file.
Is the problem only occurring with steam?

If you ping google from another machine do you see the same issue? (ie is the problem with your machine, or the router?)

Can you ping from the router?

Sorted, had to enable HW acceleration in the router, not sure it's not enabled by default.

Now I'm getting the full 500Meg download.
