128 GB USB Drive launched

My 80GB external USB drive (2.5" laptop drive + external drive case) still fits nicely into my pocket and has decent transfer rate. I'm happy thanks!!! :cool:
Flash drive that big is a waste of money (cos of the transfer rate) - SSD is a different story :)
 
They first have to increase the speed of USB2.0 to like something we can considor would get with USB9999.0 before Im going to wait to transfer that thing full ;)
 
Ye,Usb 2 is to bottleneckingly slow.Usb 3 should be out sooner than expected so ....fingers are crossed.

I agree. What happens if you misplace the damn thing cause its so small. It could easily get stolen:(

If Flash drive capacity went from 8MB to 128GB in 9 yrs, what will we have in another 9 yrs? 128 TB or a multi-multiple of that? Then again ... with cloud computing, and cloud storage, how would we use such facility? ANd what will it be called? Maybe ... cloud-stick!

I find that funny as well, since everybody uses things which normally [to me] resembles piracy and uses that as the yardstick...

Expect telkom to reinvent themselves and charge by the meg again...
 
I recall that you have [or used to have] a limited number of writes on this kind of storage. Which is sort of why your camera's card used to stop working after a while, that sort of thing. Is this still the case or has the 'limit' sort of increased by now?

(yes I know, in some way everything is limited, but the packaging used to specify the expected end of life, such as after 1000 writes or something to that effect..)
 
Sounds good.

But... how reliable is USB drives? No sense in buying one, filling it up with 128Gb's of data, only to lose the whole lot at one go when it fails.
 
Buy two, and stick all your eggs in two baskets lol...
Good for storing your Muvee collection that you end up only watching once.
 
About as real as that N97 phone for $88 - lol... be prepared to be ripped off... let me guess - 360Gb if you employ special encryption and only store text?
