128 GB USB Drive launched

As soon as they're in the region of ~ R500 I'll be getting two of these babies for personal backups.

Encrypted with Truecrypt, one for the fire proof safe, one for off-site.
 
The keyword missing in the topic title is "flash" . I believe 128GB USB Drives are nothing new ;) 128GB Flash drives on the other hand, yes :)

Now to start saving for a 128GB solid state based replacement of my 120GB HardDrive based MP3 Player.

Awesome. The next question is 'how much'?

Also - how fast can the data transfer? Surely the day will come soon when you can rent or buy an 'agnostic' notebook, insert your USB and use it as your own.

Yes, Windows pre-installed on a flash drive....(without internet explorer and windows media player though, that you will need to install yourself).

Would still be cool, then you can swop between different OSses on the fly.
 
Guess this has to beat me .... Bought a 16GB Flash drive and had a transfer speed of 1.1M/b per second ... Threw the damn thing into the bin !

That is possible at the moment even using a 1Gig flash drive and MicoXP or TinyXP.

Theres also something called BartPE that allows you to create stripped down versions of XP. I've seen XP boot off 512Meg SD Card using that.

A 128GB usb flash drive would be awesome.. but as already pointed out, if the data transfer rate is inline with typical flash drives then it becomes kind of useless..

Typically I can transfer data to my flash drive at about 2.5MB/s, it's only 4GB so no big deal.. However if it had 128GB storage it would take over 10 hours to fill .. :eek:

Until the transfer rates improve, I'll stick to a portable HDD for large amounts of data.. ;)
 
When can we get to the point where articles about storage technologies or data caps no longer include words like "37 CDs" or "25 000 emails" or "50 000 mp3 songs" to give an idea of the size of the data? If you don't yet know what a MB or GB is then should you really be using a computer?
