Hi Guys, I have recently changed from Telkom 1mbps uncapped to WebAfrica and I am finding with their FUP I am not getting nearly as much downloaded as with Telkom. I don't know if it will change, but with Telkom I could download 24/7 at 100kbps and I managed to pull 150 - 200GB's down in a month.

Can I expect the same throttling from Mweb and others and how many GB's have you managed to pull from your current ISP on a 1mbps uncapped?

Thanks!

100 Gigs downloaded on MWEB uncapped over the last 31 days according to Utorrent.

You will not get full speeds all the time though.

*edit*

And that's not constant downloading, so I'm sure you could get more than that.

Thanks! How does HTTP browsing get affected whilst your are downloading? The only reason I won't go back to Telkom is that when a DL is running HTTP is completely useless!

It's about as fast (or slow) as you'd expect, depending on how much bandwidth your downloads are taking up.

Sure and that is something that Web Africa does well. Regardless of how much you are downloading HTTP stays fast.

Limit your downloads a little to give yourself some dedicated bandwidth for browsing. I find this works best, especially with NZB's downloading in the background.

What kind of question is this??? If you are running a download you are killing your own bandwidth. Learn how to do some QoS or pause your download for better performance.

Surely you understand that there is a finite amount of bandwidth available?

The very reason you are struggling to download as much on WA, is why your HTTP speeds are better. :p

As others have said. If you want faster browsing you need to limit your downloads. You can either have fast downloads or fast browsing, not both.

I'd say go back to Telkom as with other providers you will get shaped to make HTTP good. Whether you want it or not.

It depends lets say you set your max speed to 50kbps on utorrent then http would be fast enough for browsing overoll you be able to browse and download pretty easily on a 1mbps line

Wow there Fella, I ask the question because the way that Telkom prioritises HTTP vs WA is different and I was trying to understand if Mweb does the same.

I have also read that some recommend Openweb Gold, any comment on that?

I think it's more expensive than MWEB?

If money is no issue, I've heard good things about it, but from where I am sitting MWEB is a great option.

I'm running on Openweb Gold. It's fast..... (and you do get amazing support) :)
And I'm still with Telkom Uncapped and, as you know, it's too fast for you!!!

And I cannot comment on the ISP support as it has never broken... :p

I get 105kBs all day, every day on Telkom 1mbs uncapped with torrents or newshost. Torrents obviously depend on the seeds. I think it's a layer 8 issue.
