1st Robovac suggestions

One thing I didn’t realise is that it has a disposable bag, which I’m sure you can re-use a few times with some effort, just like I do with my Karcher vacuum.

But it raises the question where’s the best place to source replacement parts and maintenance items?

Logical answer is Xiaomi directly, but I just know someone here will have a trust sourced with better prices.

Had many years of service out of my Xiaomi 1C which seems to be pretty much the same as this one just older.

The only reason it failed is because at some point I reset the maps and it kept getting stuck under my one couch that had sagged over time and therefore damaged the left wheel.

It's for this reason I would highly recommend spending a bit more and getting one that at least has Lidar and therefore doesn't only operate by "bump dynamics" and can actually "see" your couched and things and therefore actively avoid them.

I bought might without Lidar specifically because it's lower thinking that's good it will go under stuff that the taller ones can't but this was a mistake on my part.

You don't want to be spending another R3000 in a few years because the thing is too dumb to figure stuff out for itself.
I bought the S10 a year ago, and its awesome, its crazy how much dust i have to clean out of its "2 in one" compartment every second day. If i could, i would get the one that docks and has the bigger storage containers

Worth a try I guess, but the mop pad sit at the back, so unless it tries to moves it's ass into the couch feet, not sure if it will work.

I mean if it just reduces proximity it would solve it I bet.

This looks like active collision avoidance rather than mop location.

My wife took our S20 to her holiday flat this past weekend. During the three days without the S20 at home, I immediately felt the difference, and even my wife noticed how dirty the floors looked after just a few days.

We originally bought the S20 for the flat, but it’s been doing such a great job at home that my wife decided to buy a second one for the flat instead. We’ve just ordered the E5, which is perfect for the studio apartment’s vinyl flooring since we don’t need advanced cleaning there.

At home, our weekly cleaning service commented today on how clean the floors are. They spent only 15 minutes mopping, compared to the usual 30–45 minutes.

It’s funny after having the X20 go at it a few days I told my wife the other night that I feel something is wrong as the floors feel “sticky”.

She was like no they aren’t sticky, that’s the feeling of them being clean and not covered in dust.

Meant to post this here and somehow ended up in some other robot vacuum thread so now I’m double posting.

This X20+ is on a whole other level compared to the non-Lidar unit I had before.

It did a quick scan of the house which means no vacuuming just runs around to build a map and then got 95% of it.

Now it’s doing its full first proper clean after a charge and I haven’t heard/seen it do the bump into things move even once.

I see there is an option to enabled it to be more hardcore and do that but I’ll leave it alone for now.

Water Level 2/3 seem unnecessarily heavy on water so just moved it down to Level 1.

Purposely left a lot of stuff laying about including some cords and it’s yet to moan and tell me it’s stuck.

So far very impressed.
Was the wifey delighted?

I just used my old suction vac to suck out the dirt in the robovac bag

I'm curious as to what everyone's use cases are for integrating vacuums into HA other than " integrate all things ".

My first thought ( as mentioned in a previous post ) was to clean when we leave the house between say 09h00 and 17h00. If we come home, it can scuttle back to the dock.

I personally haven't integrated yet as I'm prone to trigger manually when the place needs a clean. I prefer to lift up dining room chairs etc. for a proper clean.

Any other cool automation ideas ?

We have four cats ,I have to empty the bin everyday and it's like a cat sized amount of hair that comes out.

Initially, I used to do a full run mop and vacuum at 4am . Everyday, with the clean up around the edges option selected.
10am mop the bathroom after everyone has finished using it

3pm run mon to Friday, kitchen and lounge gets vacuumed to clean up before I get home

There's an option also to do a double clean which I have never tried

Also haven’t done it yet but for me it would probably be the opposite due to my alarm issue to just have it NOT roam around when the alarm is armed otherwise still to a regular schedule.

Will probably only feel a new for it when going back to work.

What I could have seen as a cool function would be if you could access the cameras and operate it remotely.

Which model?

The S20 is also rather impressive, cannot believe how clean our floors are tonight. My wife is over the moon and already planning to get a second one for our beach house (this was supposed to be for the beach house but now she wants to keep it at home).

The initial mapping of the house it was like watching a bumper car. What I have learned is that my house is not robovac friendly, too much crap on the floors, too much furniture not high enough for the vac to go under and just too many furniture legs sticking out.

Over the next few days we are going to raise the height of our furniture by a few cm, remove clutter and rearrange some furniture.

We did a vacuum run and then a second mop run. Takes an hour each time, and on the mop run, we are very impressed at the results, better than expected. The tank is only 270 ml but it mopped over 58m2 according to app with about 100 ml water still left.

Couldn't you have taken it with you when you visit the beach house instead of buying two?

Thought of a decent use case

We recently added a braai room which leads outside to a pool. With rug rats running in and out, one of its entertainment purposes is to be somewhat of buffer room with wet feet and grass clippings being trampled through before the chaos causing entities enter the main house

With the recent addition of the S20+ for the main house, the braai room inherited the now old Mijia 1C. The 1C's now sole purpose is to keep that room clean ( can't use the S20+ due to a security gate ). So I was thinking of a remote / hidden physical button close to the braai room but in the main house that would trigger a clean instead of having to find the phone, open the app, select the vacuum, wait for the map to load, click Clean....cos app'ing is haaaaard :S

I bought this off Temu. They have a variety of extras.
