Hi Guys

Have a look at this unit on ebay and let me know what you guys think about it.
It can take 2.5 and 3.5 sata drives. I have tried so hard to find a small 2.5'' casing that i can connect to my plasma screen which can connect via hdmi and also with a feature where i can record anything on the set.

Let me know what your opinion is and if there is something similar or better and cheaper locally.

Looks like a piece of shyte if you ask me...

The drive HAS to be Fat32, which limits you to 4Gb file sizes...

I don't see the HDMI input you are talking about... Did you mean output?

These can normally only record from AV inputs.

yes output sorry

take 2 only has 3.5'' players. i'm specifically looking for a 2.5'' with hdmi output that you can record also

I would rather stick to a known brand, the picture quality on some of these no name brand items often sucks.
You get what you pay for in those terms.

2.5"? as in a laptop HDD size?

Why so picky on the size of the unit?.. you're limiting yourself for no real reason.

the WD player looks better then the Tivo IMO.

which media player is the best on the market and what make and also value for money when it comes to playing every format, features, picture quality and flexibility.

my price range is up to R1500 for a player. i know the 2.5'' costs more as its more compact. as i said the most important to me is that it must have a hdmi output for picture quality and be able to record from dstv and normal tv.

I have heard about Me8er,Tivo,WD player.maybe they are the best around

Tvix M6500A and M7000A are very good, but very expensive.

Popcorn Hour C-200 is probably the best to get right now, but also pretty expensive.

How much are they going for and where are they the cheapest to get.

I've bought previously from Ebay without any problems. Our local stores are raping us with their ridiculious prices.

:(:(:(

I paid R4500 locally for my M7000A, think it was R800 more than the (functionally identical)6500, but I just wanted that aluminium cylinder :) (That's also with no HDD, bought a 1.5TB extra) ... also have another 1.5TB external and a .5TB 2.5" external on it.

I think CompAfrica was selling the PCH C-200 for R3000 or thereabouts ... think the expected price when they have stock again will be R3500 ... very good player though ... and you can stick a PC BD drive in it and it will act like a BD-player (only one I know of with that feature)

None of them record afaik?

R1500 for a player with hdmi and be able to record, not likely at that price in this country, although I have a fantec from germany.

Paid R1800 from expansys
records dstv not hdmi though
has hdmi out to tv
doesnt play mkv though, they have new ones that play and record everything

Looks like the Me8eder is currently the best player on the market. I have a 750gig WD drive which i need a casing for. Its selling for R2224 at Simplicity.

Does anybody know where i can get it cheaper.
:D
