2 router wifi bridging WiFi extending

Hi guys,

I am trying to set up something.
I'm using WiFi in my house, my issue is the last couple of rooms are to far away.
I'm using a Netgear router. I have a spare D-Link router as well, they are both Wifi routers.
Is it possible for my to setup some sort of bridge where I can use my spare D-Link router as a booster to extend my internet access? Any tips on how to do this if its possible?

I have done this. What I did is connect them with a normal CAT5E cable, set the network SSID's to the same, same security settings just different channels then, set the second router up as a DHCP relay agent and I think that was it. I did it quite a while ago so details are a bit sketchy. Sorry.

A booster, as in a repeater?
If your other router supports it, fine, but it halves your throughput, so effectively it sucks for anything above 4Mbps.
Rather use it as an access point and connect the two routers via a network cable, (and disable DHCP on the access point).

Tim, have you had much success using the router as a wireless access point? I have had varying results with Netgear and TP Link routers. Some seem to work after a restart, but others refuse to forward the signal

I did it some time back with a Netgear and a mega 105WR and it was fine.

I did connect them with a cable not wirelessly

As others have said before, its best to link the two routers with cat5 for the best results. If that isn't an option its best to use the same brand and model to bridge or WDS as that will often be the most stable setup since some brands don't play nice with others.

Had the same issue and tried with a d-link and netgear and i could not get it to work , bought an trendnet 300Mbs easy-n Range Extender and it works great Setup is a breeze and its one of those setup and forget devices. I think it cost about R600at my local pcshop.
