'The player knows he has made a mistake - but in this kind of game to be sent off just for `asking' I find a difficult decision to understand.

'I don't know whether it was anything to do with the Ashley Cole incident.

'Javier was sent off for dissent, but to be sent off for asking the official something is a surprise.

'He knows he made a mistake, but in a big game like this it is difficult to understand.

i love rafa could not see what was being said by biggest retard in the liverpool squad

i can clearly remember the f%^& you F^&* off being said over and over

i could also clearly see that he was going to be sent off

benetiz could not see it and now defends what was a red card without doubt

must suck being a liverfool with a manager like this

I was sitting there with my liverpool mates and even they were saying masch better STFU or he'll get sent off....and it happened.:D

why is it the oke that verbally abuses a ref for 40 minutes makes a bad challenge which was rightly yellow carded is off the hook on this whole red card thing while the ref gets all the stick

its simple that first tackle was a yellow card at any time of the game even the first 30 seconds

he then went on to chirp the ref for the next 40 minutes

get over this and accept he was a total idiot and should be banned for 3 games and lose a 2 weeks wages

What do you call it when people have a set of standards for others and a different set for themselves?

You are both wrong, its Javier Alejandro Mascherano,if you are going to use a guys name then FFS u had better spell it correctly otherwise no one is going to know who he is.Killad00b there are hundreds of macherano's in the PL,we dont want to get confused now.:D:D

which game were you watching ?

Didnt you see how Mascherano was swearing left right and center, after his dirty tackle on scholes ?

*sigh*

Like Rooney or Giggs never swore at refs. Like Scholes never commits fouls like Mascherano's.. Nothing happens when they do it but Mascherano does it oh boy outrage, red cards

alan im shocked your defending this oke

totally shocked

yes player swear at refs

he got a deserved yellow card then swore we all saw what he said

then for the next 30 odd minutes and everytime he got blown up he swore at the ref

he then walked up to the ref knowing he had been abusing the ref for 40 minutes and abused him some

walk u stupid idiot of player who will defended and the ref will get the stick

alan the way players are treating ref's is totally wrong my man and i hope idiot like mach get sent off alot more

its simple alan

he is an idiot he was in the wrong and he deserved his card

to say anything different means your a die hard supporter who has no common sense

if scholes gigs rooney ronaldo acted the way he did i would expect the same outcome

end of story

he cost liverpool a possible draw or win (more than likely they would not have won) but still

stupid and he let his team down in a time they really needed a result

idiot

o and alan anybody would have been yellowcard by the ref for the first tackle

it was late and dangerous and took scholes out

YELLOW CARD FOR ANYBODY IN THE GAME AND ANYTIME OF GAME

besides united would have rolled fool 3-0 anyhow

I know Rooney swore ( note past tense ) at refs alot. But the talk of football whole of last week was how refs should discipline players giving them shyte, so thats what the ref did, he put Mascherano in his place.
Since you mentioned Rooney & Giggs, in this match did they once even trash talk to the ref ?

I'm calling for consistency. Players bagger refs all the time. We'll see if in the future players get sent off for this kind of behavior.

But it goes both ways. Refs need to earn respect. There's a lot of passion in the game and if you're being being screwed over by the ref then he is going to get given stick.

It was, and it would be beneficial if any official explanation was proffered. But there remains a lack of accountability among referees as well as too great a tendency to err, no matter how difficult their job is.

Two statements pertain. The first is that there is too much dissent towards referees with certain clubs - Chelsea the most obvious example - persistent offenders. The second is that the standard of officiating in the Premier League is nowhere near high enough. How much one is a product of another is a matter for debate.

Especially on this occasion. Bennett is from the school of referees who officiate in the manner of strict but invariably wrong headmasters children fear. Some will question whether he deserves respect. The odds are that half of Merseyside would decide he doesn't. The FA would argue that the uniform itself merits it, regardless of the occupant.

As for the sending off offence is there a vid link to it so we can see if he indeed did swear at him at that time?

Wait the shoe will be on the other foot soon enough. Scholes will miss time yet another tackle and get harshly booked. Rooney , Giggs and co will assault the ref with verbal tirades then 20 minutes later one of them will ask him a simple question and get sent off. Then we'll see the reactions here ;)

This reminds me of the post by 'Jsheed sa' saying how much better of a buy Toure is COMPARED TO RONALDO, lmfao.

In terms of money spent / selling value I still thing he is, % wise its higher and thus a better investment from a fiscal point of view, not talking goals etc, but MONEY.

I still stick by my point.

Right Ronaldo bought for Transfer Fee: £12.24million he's now worth an estimated £54 million - that what 4.5x the transfer value.

Toure on the other hand was bought from Asec Mimosa in 2002 for £150 000 now he's worth approx £9 million now, thats like 60x his initial fee - from a fiscal point of view thats a great buy.

jsheed explain this to me

ronaldo has gone up by 40 odd million
toure has gone up by lets call it 9 million

how is making 40 million off one player worse than making 9 million off another

lol how can u think 40 million is worse than 9 million

ronaldo was a much better buy by a mile considering they could make 40 million as opposed to toure's small 9 million

ronaldo was good business :)

o alan i have seen scholes dismissed alot and he deserve's it because he cannot tackle lol but i dont sit and defend an oke who obviously deserves to be sent off

im sorry but your stance on mach is rubbish and you know it

I sorry but when Andy Gray defends a Liverpool player. Well that trumphs everything :p

Andy Gray stood up for the Liverpool midfielder, telling The Last Word, that football has a problem if you get sent off for asking the referee a question.

"
First of all I think Mascherano was disappointed with his booking," he told the Sky Sports show. "We could tell the minute it happened when he slid in on (Paul) Scholes, a lot of referees would have let it go, but Steve Bennett decided that he would book him.

"He was rattled by that, Mascherano, you could see it in his play.

"Steve Bennett has his own way of refereeing a game but it is not mine. A lot of people might say that he was absolutely, 100 per cent right. I don't think he was.

"I agree that he (Mascherano) should have stayed away. He didn't, so forget that. Are you telling me that Steve Bennett is going to send off every single player that comes up to him and says, 'what's happening?'."

Gray argued that there was a big difference between Cole's and Mascherano's misdemeanours and that Cole, who escaped dismissal, should have seen red while it was rough justice on Mascherano.

He said: "Ashley Cole should have been dismissed in mid-week. No doubt about it.

"His treatment of the referee was a disgrace. To turn his back on him like that and treat him with such contempt, whether you like referees or not, was wrong, ill-advised and he shouldn't have done it. He should have been sent off and that might have been the end of it.

"But if you are telling me that if you go up to a referee and you stand in front of him and you are being not aggressive and he didn't swear at him (you should be sent off).

"Where are we going with this game? Where are we going with it? Do me a favour. There are problems in the game, we know there are, and Ashley Cole's was an unpleasent part of modern day football.

"But if we are going to send players off for going up to a referee and saying, 'what's happening?', and the referee cannot handle it and reacts like that every time, then we have got a problem.

"I will tell you something that happened in the game: Another player, in the second-half, went over to Steve Bennett and he gave him a verbal volley of industrial language. Right at him.

"I'm not telling you (who) because it is not my business to get players into trouble but that is what happens. Suddenly, if you say 'what's happening?' to the referee, you get sent off, but if you give him a volley, you don't."

How much you wanna bet that was a Manure player?
