2007/2008 WI tour to SA thread

legitimate or not. accepting the threats has weakened the ICC's position especially when requests through proper channels were rejected.

If the ICC was more proactive, this wuldn't be a problem. The fact is that Bucknor's umpiring in that test was very very poor, and not of the quality that you'd expect of an international umpire standing in a test match between (probably) the two top test nations.

JA well, umpires do make mistakes... Bucknor only makes more than others... :D

Rudi Coertzen - A well respected umpire and very good also had some shockers - WC Final, SRL vs Aus 2nd test

Taufel - The great and best according to some also had some shockers most notable the last couple of tests between SA and WI (the harris catch comes to mind)

The thing is, the ICC did reprimand Koertzen by not giving him 20/20 duties at WC and obviously Bucknor has been reprimanded as well due to BCCI recommendations... I would venture to say that they would have reprimanded him in any ways later on...

On cricket - I see Steyn is fit and WILL play which is excellent news! On the Smith issue, chiskop, yes he does play brave cricket, but that is when he scores the bulk of his runs by being attacking. He is class - whether you like him or not! His attitude need a good readjustment and he needs to be moered/serviced by his teammates so he can become a team player again...

AB - not so sure this guy is all his cracked up to be on test level. Mentality and judging match situation is shocking.

Gayle - Very patgriotic and brave to want to play but also Very Very Very stupid. Hamstring is an injury before test so NO runner allowed + one bad bump on his thumb and it could be disjointed/scarred/f%^&d forever!!!

AB still has a rash streak in him which needs to be tempered. if he doesn't he will end up as a talented player who fell by the way side. He needs to start applying consistency to his game. and there are signs that he is getting there. it has to be said the selectors have done a good job of sticking with him through his bad times and not doubting him.

They have stuck with AB yes, but how long is long enough to prove himself as consistent? A 50 - 80 odd here and there and only what 2 - 3 hundreds in almost 50 tests? Surely the time has come to **** or get off the pot! Same chances have been given to Boeta and where is he now? Also very talented but does not have the mentality to succeed at the highest level. Same with Jacques Rudolph... (Bangladesh does not count :D)

Kallis was one example of selectors sticking with a player, and look how he turned out. When he started his career he was very inconsistant. I have a feeling AB will turn out even better than Kallis.

I remember Kallis situation and am very greatful the selectors stuck with him... His turn around came after 20 or so test when he scored that 80 in Pakistan and the 100 in Australia the year afterward... I hope AB is the same... CSA has surely spent some good time and resources/faith in him... Others have not enjoyed that good faith

Martin van Jaarsveld and HD Ackerman comes to mind...

With all due respect to van Jarsveld and Ackerman, IMO they did not have nearly as much talent as Kallis or AB for that matter.

Yoh!! They lost the plot again!
Is the pitch behaving?

OMG what a flippin' catch by Gibbs.

WI 22/3

As I said his fielding and experience are carrying him at the mo cause he hasn't fired with the bat but when you taking catches like that who cares? Catches win matches...
