Some stats from St.Lucia

Matches thus far at WC in order.....

England won by 7 wickets (with 60 balls remaining). Kenya 177 (43/43 ov); England 178/3 (33/43 ov)

New Zealand won by 114 runs. New Zealand 363/5 (50 ov); Canada 249 (49.2 ov)

New Zealand won by 148 runs. New Zealand 331/7 (50 ov); Kenya 183 (49.2 ov)

England won by 51 runs. England 279/6 (50 ov); Canada 228/7 (50 ov)

New Zealand won by 6 wickets (with 54 balls remaining). England 209/7 (50 ov); New Zealand 210/4 (41 ov)

Kenya won by 7 wickets (with 40 balls remaining). Canada 199 (50 ov); Kenya 203/3 (43.2 ov)

Has a highest of score of 363.

It would appear that batting second on this pitch has no disadvantage, as most of the above scores from those batting second have come relatively close, and this does involve the minows. So i would suggest that whom ever bats 2nd out of OZ and SA, would need to be bowled out to lose the game.

Cool, I hope the match between Australia & South Africa will be a nail-biter again, like the one at the Wanderers, Johannesburg... :D

I was looking at those games but it does not give you much indication of what to expect sadly.. the gap between England and New Zealand is huge altho surprisingly or maybe unsurprisingly? Nz top order failed and styris the virus saved them yet again with oram yet their run rate was a impressive 5.1 (after being 19/3 and 72/4).

hrm.. i'd think 275+ is needed on that pitch.

Jeez, like, i'm really hoping its not a rain affected match, i fking hate those. Doesnt matter if the match is against SA or Kenya, when rain decides to fall, its really fked up.

Don't stress, it's the Caribbean! Hot weather and beautiful blue skies....most of the time.

Ya man. :)

On the stats side. Aus only take us with bowling wickets. On the rest, it is pretty even. Although, we have caught up on the bowling front with the England game.

Batting Runs

1. JH Kallis (SA) 480
2. ML Hayden (Aus) 477
3. GC Smith (SA) 441
5. RT Ponting (Aus) 414
8. AB de Villiers (SA) 357
11. MJ Clarke (Aus) 319
13. HH Gibbs (SA) 303
14. AC Gilchrist (Aus) 302

Most Wickets

1. GD McGrath (Aus) 20
3. SW Tait (Aus) 16
5. GB Hogg (Aus) 15
7. NW Bracken (Aus) 14
8. AJ Hall (SA) 14
9. CK Langeveldt (SA) 13
15. A Nel (SA) 11

Bowling Economy Rates

3. NW Bracken (Aus) 3.32
5. SM Pollock (SA) 3.54
20. A Nel (SA) 4.10
21. GB Hogg (Aus) 4.12

15. A Nel (SA) 11

.. in 2 or is it 3? games that guy has caught up

btw I was thinking about it the other day.. in 1999 world cup our bowling was good but our batting sucked with exception being lance klusner coming to the rescue continually much like pietersen for england.. except their bowling sucked. Anyways this time round our bowling is worse off and batting better(tho inconsistent)

Both Nel and Langeveld have missed at least 3 games each yet they are our better bowlers. Strange. The problem with our batting this time is that the middle order Prince, Kemp have done almost nothing. Because of the way that AB and smith go at the ball, they are going to be a bit hit and miss. The majority of the time they have "hit" but when they have missed, there has been nothing after Kallis except the odd cameo from Boucher and a bit of help from Polly and Prince. It should never get to Polly and Boucher unless there are only 10 overs left or if we are trying to up the rate etc.

Hussy and Hodge have not had any batting of note yet and that could just come back and haunt the Aussies. With Hall, Nel, Langeveld and Polly in the side and with the way Gilly and Hayden play, you could easily find Aus 20/3. That will be the test for the Aus lower order. I would prefer to see us bat first and put Aus under pressure.

The one thing to remember about those stats is that we've played one more game than the Aussies.

...... to sum Abe's stats up (which i assume he took them from the top 20)

Aussies batting 1512 (scores from top 20 bastman)
SA Batting 1481

Aussie Wickets 65 (wickets from top 20 bowlers)
SA bowling 38

..and as Chriskop mentioned, Aussies still have a game in Hand.

Quite a difference in the wickets........ So Aussies can bat or bowl first, doesnt matter.

nope, we have made the wickets look like they were kuk, the Aussies haven't.

SA has had flashes of brilliance in the WC, but the Aussies have been consistently excellent. (In fact the only time I can thinkof where the Aussies haven't been in complete control of a game was when Smiff and de Villiers were batting against them).

Don't get me wrong, killa. I support SA all the way. The difference is the SA can beat any team on their day - the Aussies can beat any team.

meditate meditate ram ram

aus will bat first and indeed be 20/3 before recovering to 274/8 after 50 (so due a bad day)

after a extremely nerve-wracking run chase SA will get there with 4 balls to spare and 7 down

taking NZ down by 53 runs in the final will almost be an anti-climax
