I think he definitely will learn from Saturdays mistakes. Not changing the bowlers quickly enough, sending out the wrong batsman, field placements etc. I agree with you Boodles that he IS the man to lead SA to a WC victory. BTW well done on Saturdays victory. :)
 
i may not like smith all that much but he is improving and im liking his attitude

positive is always good

needs to show some of the other players what positive batting means

him and AB are going to the world best opening pair very soon
 
Lol why youll blamin ol Kallis?? I tawt he did decently, grounded himself and allowed the other batsmen to go for it, they didnt!!
Gibbs couldnt niether could Boucher, Prince, Kemp and Pollock.....
Theres 5 batsmen that all scored less than kallis, regardless of balls faced!
 
Ground himself??? You gotta be kidding. We needed more than a run a ball and he must ground himself. Please, when Smith and AB were batting neither of them were grounded, both played aggresively but sensibly and thats what we needed from everone down the batting lineup (which didn't happen).

Smith was sedate at first!
Someone needed to stay there. Thats what Kallis does, he knows he's slow everyone knows he's slow. He didnt lose the game for SA is all im saying, and its wrong to blame him, when Boucher and Gibbs came in, (even after Kallis was 1 run from 15 balls) Sa was still 14 runs ahead of OZ at that stage of the game.

Typo. In any case, Kallis still wasted several deliveries. He lost us the game by playing like it was a test match. This game could not be won when a batsman batted like a sloth.
 
You know, JK8 has a point. That score was never going to be achieved solely by our openers. Gibbs, Prince, and Kallis needed to contribute, and fast. Gibbs and Prince also let us down.

I really do think that losing the match exposed our problems, and gives us a chance to work on them before a really important match.

They let us down by trying to force the run rate (thanks to Kallis) and playing rash shots - and getting out. When Kallis came in to bat, South Africa were well ahead of Australia - all he needed to do was feed the better batsmen the strike . He didn't do this - on a flat wicket with tiny boundaries. Kallis in fact refused a few singles. :eek:

Exactly my point you had 5 other batsmen that performed pathetically! Easy to blame ol Kallis I guess.

Well tomorow I believe more will be exposed, Im sure Smithy will play Peterson, cant see him doing much though, esp against the class of Murali!
O and then Sangakara and Jayasuriyah!!!

Kallis deserves at least half the blame. He batted slow, put huge pressure on the other batsmen around him and even declined singles that were on offer. Kallis killed our momentum. But this has been discussed to death and the majority of participants actually agree that Kallis is deserving of the blame, so why keep rehashing the same argument over and over? Kallis with all his talent is no longer suited to the moder One Day game. Simple as that.

Come on, he did not, the wicket of AB killed the momentum, then Smithy collapsing was another major cause!!! That just made the Aussies wake up and allowed them the oppurtunity to go in for the Kill!!!
They were in a power play and bowling well. SA batting just fell from there. For a team FULL of batsmen you guys want to blame one guy. Not fair.
 
Totally agree with all of u, Kallis put pressure on the other batters like Bouch, Kemp, Polly to score from the first ball, and they failed.
The bowlers should NEVER have allowed the target to get to 370. In the game against Holland EVERY bowler bowled 1 bouncer in the over and that's a dot ball! You can try 50 bouncers meaning the opposition only gets to face about 42 overs! OK so the ozzies will put most of the bouncers away, but Ponting WAS struck on the helmet hey?

Anyway, what puzzles me, and no one mentioned it, is that Prince came in and tried to bat like Boucher / Kemp. Prince is RENOWNED for getting the sharp singles and turning the ones into two, so what if he came in and just tried to play that way? He could easily get 6-8 per over and at least it would be better than Kallis getting 3-4! So Prince tried to hit sixes and its not in his nature.
 
O well never liked Kallis's text book style of play, no need to defend him anymore, hope they drop him for tomorows game hahahahaha!!
 
Well JK8, don't you like support India and Pakistan? The majority of us here are die hard SA fans and yeah we know Kallis IS the major cause of the loss. Sure the bowlers also let the target spiral out of control to 378 but we were well on our way to winning the match, I agree with (almost) everyone here that Kallis was a slug and put pressure on guys like Gibbs and Kemp to score quickly and thats not on. So saying Kallis was the "anchor" I disagree with, theres no such thing as an anchor when you gotta get 378 to win, just think about it, 2 slow overs for us meant the rate climbed from 7.5 to about 9. Fast batting is what we needed from him and it's not what he delivered but this has been talked about to death so I think this is also my last point on the subject of "Kallis".
 
htf can u expect gibbs to perform every game, out 10 innings gibbs performs in 2, when ever he bats well its massive but most of the time he out for under 30

prince is a slow ass batsmen

wtf are they playing prince and not bosman

kallis is slow and must be removed from the team in order to get anywhere or someone must tune him to play like we know he can

if we bat first we dont want kallis slowing us down and making us get 250 instead of 350 by anchoring

kallis is one of the finest strikers of the ball in world cricket, dont know why he doesnt go mad

feo im with you on your theory, when chasing 378 you dont anchor you freakin the ball for all your worth
 
Did u guys see that ICC demanded youtube to pull off CWC videos. I mean wtf...Youtube is providing some good publicity for cricket and there they go pulling it off...

I cant watch cricket here in HK and tune into youtube sometimes to see Gibbs' sixes etc but now they go and screw it up.. :(
