guys it was a plum pitch fulla runs

no one is to blame but kallis

the loss is purely because of his 5 day batting when 370 off 50 overs

by the time the rest of the big hitters came in it was all but over

THANX KALLIS now drop him already, its not the first time he has slowed us down to snail's pace

Did the SA team live up to their reputation as chokers?
 
Wrong - SA just doesnt have enough professional spinning coaches. Of course there are only a handful of kids whom spin, but that handful applies to the Aussie/NZ and Pomie scenario as well.
 
More on the spinners issue: SA is fast becoming the only Test playing nation with no spin bowling fixture in their lineup. Even the Windies have that area sorted these days (in Chris Gayle particularly).

chokers no we are not, slow batsmen we have

bosman in for kallis and nel in for prince

bosman is one of the best one day players i think along with AB

kallis needs to decided, do i want to actually try and hit fast runs or not, if he doesnt he must retire from one day cricket
 
But thats the point, Shane Warne was a great spin bowler because he started to bowl spin when he was little
But here in SA nobody wants to bowl spin (at school level) because there's no coaches
 
Jeez like,how did i miss that one. I think we'll see how SA goes during the rest of the tourn. before chokers kicks in

I'm not sure how it works in SA, but in the UK we didn't have many professional coaches at school level either. Granted that was many years ago and the professional game has evolved enormously, but at school level, we had spinners in the UK. Naturally our tracks were a lot slower than here. In SA at club level we don't really have professional coaches either - certainly not any spin bowling coaches - mostly just batting coaches and perhaps a generic bowling coach.

I've seen plenty spinners at school level. Problem is keeping 'em in the game after they leave school.
 
Well chokers or not I must admit that I knew we were going to lose when I saw Kallis walk on. The first thought that went through my head was that he was going to slow things down to a snail's pace. I'm no cricket expert but its happened before. And it seems like we didnt learn the lessons then. And something tells me we will not learn it this time either.
 
@ShaunSA: I think this time around SA may well learn the lesson - media all over the world covering the World Cup apportioned a large amount of blame on the shoulders of Kallis, and I think the SA squad would have noted that even Ricky Ponting pointed out the same. Hopefully this time the lesson is learnt - and remembered.

Problem is there is not much coverage of this in the local news as far as i can tell. So i guess they will all continue along their merry way oblivious to our thoughts :)

I agree. We know they can do it. But somewhere along the line they lose the plot :(
 
I think this time we gotta be behind them all the way, even though we hit a little snag this time. We lose faith too quickly. I'll say it again, I still think this World Cup is ours.
 
Sometimes your criticism of your team is totally unwaranted - such as attacking Smithy, as many of you were only just prior to WC.

Whether or not SA win WC - smithy is the man to lead your side, you might not think so, but he is.

You'll find that probably most teams in the next round will target your bowling (as oppsed to batting as that is your strength). So i'll be very interested to see how smithy handles the bowlers, and how the bowlers adjust to the conditions of the day.
