what do you base that on? Does his stats support this view?

From CricInfo (ODI):

Let us compare to Paul Adams:

Now lets look at Justin Ontong who is doing so well for the Lions:

Lets turn to Johan Botha's brief career:

Lastly, and this is the eye opener...Captain Smith who is NOT a recognised spinner:

So if Petersen is our ONLY decent spinner, why is our captain showing him up?

I vote for Captain Biff!!! :)

Ah well.

Got the day off tomorrow so gonna be following the SA match closely to see how captain Slowmo does :)

SL are gonna be no pushover, there attack is well balanced for a slow turning pitch or a green mamba.

Even if SL's batting fails, I think that Vaas and Murali are our main concerns. Those two alone can win it for SL.

What was wrong with Harris? He seemed like a good enough spinner. There is also that Thabalala who plays for free state. SA make the mistake of requiring that all of our one day spinners must be good batsmen yet the pace guys don't have the same requirement.

We will need to dismiss SL cheaply whether we bat or bowl first. On a average wicket, it will be difficult for us to get 230 against the SL attack. I can see us beating all of the other side but it feels like SL will beat us 7/8 times out of 10 on these wickets. Does anyone know if Fernando is still injured? We will probably have to beat SL in the field.

We better see Ntini mixing up a few deliveries tomorrow. If he bowls the same ball every ball Im gonna be seriously p1ssed.

True, if we allow them to get close to 300 then we're gonna have a tough time in conditions that they are saying is very close to Sri Lankan conditions.

That goes for Polly too :( His line and length, while good, is too predictable allowing batsmen the opportunity to adjust to it.

Also let's hope that our bowlers finally start bowling some fscking bouncers, That's one dot ball an over, which is just over 8 overs in the context of the match!

Ntini did bowl a few slower balls in the last match.

And i didn't think Polly's line was too good against Aus. What he usually does is bowl a tight line for a few deliveries and then bowls with subtle changes eg. a little fuller, or a bit wider....this works well on seaming pitches, but on that St.Kitts pitch it gave the Aussies easier-to-hit balls (especially at around 125Kph).

Ur right about the bouncers Highflyer. Kallis and Ntini are 2 of the best bouncer bowlers in the world....so they have to use there full quotient, but im sure they will against SL.

Exactly! The problem is that SA does not view a spinner as a strike bowler, and they should. As long as you do not try and foster a spinner to be a strike bowler, it will never happen.

To tell you the truth I dont think dropping him is the answer. He is much more of an asset to the side than a liability, he just has to snap out of his slug-like batting style and up the strike rate. I want that flippin gold cup to be ours at the end of the tourney.:)
