There's a world cup starting here next friday old chap. That normally means we are ready in the 4 years the OP believed weren't possible. And the only thing shocking about the stadia is their epicness. See National Geographic on 6 June 2010.

You know what is nice about being pessimistic? When things go well we end up looking like chops but in a good way . Means things went well and are looking bright.

I would worry about the optimists having to read threads 4 years later. I hope i never have to bring up your posts about how this country is on track . I hope again in 4 or 5 years i am proven a chop.

Looking at the AMAZING stadiums in Germany gets me worried. China is also building AWESOME stadiums for the Olympics in 2 years time. Countries do this because it reflects on them. Its an honour to host a world class event like a Football World Cup or an Olympics, and thats why countries spend billions on making things top class.

2010 in South Africa? . I know goverment has set aside a big amount to "upgrade" stadiums, but I have a feeling we wont be seeing any major upgrades or architechual wonders. I wouldnt be surprised to see them just put a fresh coat of paint on the outside, and water the grass.

Now we need to get out our group for the fairytale to continue and possibly a semi final depending on who we have to play before then. Final may be pushing it but ya with home support i have seen worse teams get to the semi's.

This is true dude. Would love to see the boys go as far as the Semi's but I don't think it's going to happen. The team has upped there game a little but the bigger guns like Brazil, Portugal etc have just too much fire power. We'll see in tomorrows game against the Dane's if we have what it takes. Good to see some fun in the Current Affairs section.

Nope, the eggs are well timed now. The threads dug up do not even bother getting as far as discussing whether we'll be able to host a successful world cup but rather argue that we will never be ready to host it. We are!

I do think the world cup put on hold the doom coming but that is for another thread. Right now the world cup is the only reason bad shyte has not gone down and once again i hope i am wrong.

For now though the WC is here in less 7 odd days!!!!!!!!!!!! Man o man i live for this world cup. So when we near the world cup the only focus will be on our boyz Performing and all i want from there is to try, pass the ball into the most obvious of places and keep their shots at goal level and not rugby post level.

They've now moved on to the white elephant nonsense. I find it strange that they were arguing we would never build world class stadiums and infrastructure on time, and now that it has been delivered they are white elephants.

But don't worry, any muggings or theft and we can expect the mob to blow it way out of proportion.

Oh let's not even get onto discussing what would have been said if they weren't ready! That is the greatest annoyance. They can say what they want without consequence really. If they are ready they just move onto the next thing to predict will go wrong! If they aren't ready we wouldn't hear the end of how bad this country is and how the government can't organise anything. I have not heard one word of congratulations for the local organising committees and government getting everything ready! Credit where credit is due!

I am always curious as to what fuels these predictions of "doom" when constantly year after year they fail to come into fruition. You'd think by now at least some of the doom and gloomers would have gotten the F over themselves. I know things don't always run smoothly in this country but all it takes is the slightest thing from the far left and it sets of their hair trigger neurosis and suddenly "the sky is falling !" You'd think by now they would have at least learned to stop and think "You know the last 5000 times I predicted everything to go to shyte I was wrong."

It would be such a breath of fresh air , and do their credibility so much good if just once they could come out and show some sort of acknowledgment they got it wrong, rather than the constant back pedaling. I notice the "Tourists will be all sent home in body bags" brigade have all at least shut up now.
