2014 Jeep Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee, the Cherokee and the Wrangler -> The Compass, The Patriot -> The SRT8...
Seems to me like they have been moving in this direction for a while now but I guess you are right. Who needs aerodynamics or this newfangled 8 speed gearbox or fuel injection or power steering or airbags or ABS.

Give us a square box with a carb V8 and 4 speed auto!

And the truth is, The Japanese, the Koreans and the Germans will make a way better "soft off roader" than Jeep ever will. Their build quality is better and their engines will always be more powerful and cleaner. And their product will be better priced in that range.

You are kidding, right?

I dare any Sportage or iX35 owner to follow me up some of the trails I have done. I get better mileage from my 2.4L than they get from a 2.0L. Build quality is good. Also, please show me another 4x4 (not 4x2) softroader that can be had for R317k new, like the Patriot. Kia starts at R332k, Hyundai is R350k, Nissan R355k, VW is R400k.

I wonder who was hired to come up with this hideous design. I suppose that if you squint your eyes, you'll forget that it looks like a Juke that had acid poured over the bonnet to give it that look.

Subaru Forester 4x4. R300K new. And it will outlast your Patriot by 20 years.
VW Tiguan R330K for the 4x4.

My work is done here.

Hahaha - nice try.
But Jeep has given up it's harcorenessness and is pandering to the mommies. There is no reason why you can't incorporate all the safety and comfort, but retain the uncompromising off road roots.

Especially if your company ONLY produces off road vehicles.

You see, a Jeep Patriot isn't a Cherokee under it's skirt. All the heavy duty diffs, suspension and prop shafts get traded in for lighter and cheaper material.
It's considered a "Cross Over 4x4" not a fully fledged SUV.

The prices are relatively similar throughout the classes, but the patriot's interior and build quality doesn't match up to the Kia's or the Hyundai's.
Not to mention the after sales service and warranty.

I used to own a Grand Cherokee... I know the evils that can reside in them cars.

Now you say the prices are similar. Earlier you said the Jeep will always be more expensive. They are actually ver well priced and often better priced throughout the ranges. Also comes with full maintenance plan.

I know the Patriot is not " fully fledged" and never said it was. It is more capable than a Korean however.

...and VW has the Trend model for R330k I see. Still more.

I'm not sure what you are saying about being a Trend model. It's 4x4 and it's 1billion times (yes 1 billion!) better quality than the Jeep. Let's not mince words here, you get a cheap car with the Jeep and you know it!

And the Subaru website don't reflect what they give you if you go to the dealerships (the website is bad, you should be able to tell just by looking at it). I know since I bought a new Forester, and they even put in after market leather free of charge. Came in at R301K. Subaru Bruma, feel free to give them a shout.

More capable at breaking down, for sure!
Joking aide, the Korean SUVs are made to handle a bit of gravel at best. If you want to compare them to the Patriot on off-road merit then you are well uninformed. Just look at their ground clearance -170mm on the Sportage if I recall.

It's clear you bought a Jeep and you feel like justifying your decision to do so. The reality is it was probably not the best decision. Buying a Jeep is like playing Russian Roulette. You might be one of the lucky ones where the nuts and bolts come apart the moment it runs out of warranty.

That being said, I honestly hope the Jeep doesn't let you down since it sounds like you are having fun with it! At the end of the day that's all that really matters :)

New engine improves consumption by 45% and apparently has best in class capabilities... What do you think about the Juke-like headlight layout and creased grill? Weird styling for a Jeep. It is slowly growing on me...

That is NOT the 2014 model, it was probably a concept car or something

Edit: xrapidx has already beaten me to it with pics of the 2014 model
