The Golf R is already over 500k.
R460 estimate is fine, it depends on what standard trim it includes, warranties etc.

Its out of the A45. S3 and Golf R league, its a FWD.
So the competition is the OPC, GTi and ST. Already more expensive than its direct competition.

Well actually not really - it is way more powerful than those 3, but it is front wheel drive. So it is sort of between the two camps. How can a 162kW GTi compare to a 210kW Type R?

+1, and I think at R460,000 it's taking the piss slightly. I'm a Honda fan through and through, but for R460,000 I would strongly look elsewhere (unless it depreciates like a stone since I will be shopping for one second hand).

Type R's have always held their value quite nicely. But I honestly do not think the price is too bad. It does not compete with the Golf GTI, Focus ST's etc. It is more on par (performance wise) with the Focus RS, Golf R, and those start at a lot more. So I really think Honda priced it very well if that is what it is going to cost.

They have and I don't see that changing (unfortunate for me). I would've liked to have seen it more along R425,000. The Megane RS (admittedly without options and 15kw-ish less) starts at around R360,000 AFAIK.

True but that is the watered down version. The RB8 edition, which will be the Type R's closer rival is R429 900 or sumin. So R460 for better is not bad at all mate.

I think that it is crazy, as is the price of other hot hatches in it's class and cars in general.

Seriously that is R11,000 pm on a standard repayment plan.

Yeah that's why I was hoping for around R425,000. R30,000 premium over your closest competitor is a fair chunk of change. Still, will look forward to the landed price before I worry too much.

Well the closest rival is the Astra OPC, and even that will have less power.. That is going for R482,400 (insane btw for an Opel) So R460 000 aint that bad as it is waaaay more powerful than these.

Theres a SEAT over seas that has the same power and drive train as the Type R. The GTi Ed 40 will have that engine.

Nope, its FWD should stay in that class, if they position it against the S3, A45 and Golf R it should have been AWD.
If it is in that segment, its already behind. The golf/audi and Merc is much faster.

Off the line the AWD is superior to FWD.
If its price, you can say its cheaper then the premium hatches, but slower.
I wouldnt compare it to the premium hot hatches, they way ahead.
 
Funny thing about Honda driver and VW drivers.
Honda fanbois alway get excited when the new hot hatch is released and the claimed figure and speed, then are sorely disappointed.
VW fanbois are saddened by the poor power figures of the new GTi but are then pleasantly surprised at the final product.

I wonder if the disappointment will set in again for Honda fanbois.
Too much hype creates a chance of disappointment?

I'm not so sure there will be much disappointment this time around, Honda finally added a snail to the CTR.

I think its 2 years behind. Guess we shall see.
Merc A45 black ed, Audi RS3, VW new R400. Even the Mugen edition will suffer to keep up with them.

What's the claimed figures of the Type-R when it came out? 0-100 in 6.6 seconds? And what was the true 0-100 in the end, more like 7.5 - 8 seconds at best. Glad to see they are trying to fix their mistakes by giving it more power, it surely needs it
