2015 Civic Type R

Different target markets IMO.

Definitely especially at the price point.
What I'm trying to say is that there won't be a super Type R like there will be in the Golf Audi and Merc.

Thats a bad thing for Honda. All improvements on the car going forward will be hampered by FWD.

So stick in the GTi OPC and Focus league.

Lol, I like posts like these. Thanks for making me laugh again. Needed that

Cool story bro..

You think the car is going to be everything you expect it to be and more?
Honda will probably limited first gear to 4000rpm lol!!

Whenever I see a Golf GTi, I have to look for a good few seconds to see if it isn't some homeless person who bought R3000 GTi pirate mags at Autostyle and slapped it on his 1.6 Trendline.

The Type R is unmistakably wicked looking and unique.

Funny thing about Honda driver and VW drivers.
Honda fanbois alway get excited when the new hot hatch is released and the claimed figure and speed, then are sorely disappointed.
VW fanbois are saddened by the poor power figures of the new GTi but are then pleasantly surprised at the final product.

I wonder if the disappointment will set in again for Honda fanbois.
Too much hype creates a chance of disappointment?

Yes VW understate the power figure. Stock golf 7 GTI does 167KW at the wheels, yet factory quotes that as Flywheel power.

Or you can look at the exhausets, front grille, red calipers, rear diffuser, front bumper...?

Yip, but the in terms of raw speed VW does make use of the horsepower better.

Fair enough but they could have done more to differentiate it.
The mk5 gti was probably the most identifiable of the lot.

Those items are mostly identifiable to people who are fans of the brand.

To other people, if someone slaps on some GTI mags, a grille, an exhaust system and paints the calipres - means that it looks like a GTI...

Did they sell any other models in the MK5?:D

Life is all about the details...

Last dyno I was at the stock GTi's did exactly as claimed (+- 2KW), and it was flywheel. So maybe some have more power than others? 167 wheel KW is a moerse lot for a stock gti

If yo uknow anything about dyno's.. then you would know that flywheel figures come from the Dear Santa list..
Its a royal thumbsuck!
unless you have that motor pulled out the car and .... then there is no way to tell this!
There is not way someone can factor in drivetrain losses as they differ from car to car, from manual to auto etc..bunch of idiots quoting flywheel figures from a dyno should be shot!
as a comparative tool- yes, it does give an indication of gains/losses.. but never an accurate specific figure you can quote!

O boy, here comes the VAG brigade. Thread will be locked soon. Cause aint no way anything can beat a VAG..

The problem is that people tend to be incredibly brand loyal, and as a result start resorting to trolling in order to defend their decisions.

A true car fan is able to acknowledge a great car when they see it. Heck I'm a former VAG owner, but I would get this Civic in a heartbeat if I could...

This is true. While I do troll Roux about Opels, I know that each brand has some seriously awesome products available with different strokes for different folks. I've owned Ford, Audi, Toyota, Honda and Merc, and would have no qualms buying any other brand if they made a car that ticks my boxes. Ok well maybe not Opel, I already have a sewing machine at home, but for the others sure.

Same goes for WKW.

So are you saying a dyno that spits out wkw is better than a dyno spitting out fwkw?
You can get both readings from one dyno, some okes just prefer the fwkw as the figures are higher. Does not necessarily mean the dyno is more accurate. (Or is it?)No two dyno's in this word are the same. Like you said, it's just for checking gains/losses

To really get the closest readings you will need to remove the engine from the bay and place it in a test rig built to place an engine in, but not sure who wants to go through that trouble lol

Are there dynod that read flywheel power in SA?
They call it a rolling road for a reason, it calculates wheel power and torque.

GTis generally push more wheel power than VW claimed compared to others that try and catch their manufacturers power claims.

:erm: You are mistaken.

Exactly, I think he is confusing the fact that most Dyno's use the measured output at the wheels, multiplied by a corrective factor to estimate the power at the flywheel.

As mentioned by previous comments, the flywheel output is an estimate. You can only measure the power at the wheels. Manufacturers will advertise flywheel output because it looks better on paper. Highly doubt they would understate the figure.
(Of course, there have been alleged past cases where manufacturers claim lower outputs on cheaper models to avoid cannibalizing sales of more expensive ones).

Sigh.
Manufacturers can and do calculate flywheel power.

VW are very conservative with their figures. I think it was the golf 5 or 6 GTi where all the dynod around the world showed there was 15-20wkw more than what Vw claimed.
